The use and implementation of intelligent transportation systems is necessary to save lives as well as make travel over long commute distances much easier.

Intelligent transport systems include smarter highway routes, transit, automobiles, efficient logistics networks, integrated signal information systems and the use of other information systems to update on the traffic conditions.

The range of such technological developments would expand in the upcoming future and may alter the traditional transportation systems in many ways and have introduced new technological vehicles such as hybrid electric petroleum and fuel-efficient cars.

Such vehicles also reduce the amount of carbon emissions. However, the post challenges for such technological advancement is dependent on both public and private firms as well as the technical knowledge and expertise for the implementation of such system operation greatly depends upon finances from the government.

To improve transportation systems and networks, smart card technologies can greatly improve the efficiency for the road systems, parking and to transit fares. Another way to improve transportation technology is to install efficient traffic management systems to increase ongoing road capacity and control safety precautions to avoid accidents.

With an automated traffic system, there could be serious improvements in safety, capacity and convenience for the people.

The extent for such technologies can become a significant element to implement an efficient transportation system.

INTELLIGENT TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS

The use and implementation of digital information technologies can include an array of services such as communicating, monitoring, transmitting and presenting information, such as:

  • GPS navigation
  • Vehicle locator
  • Route identification
  • Collision avoidance
  • Fare and toll collections

With a fast pace of information flow around the globe, it has sped up logistics and freight transportation movements as more and more trucks and trailers are able to make planned routes to avoid congested roads

The implementation of such intelligent transportation systems is complex in nature and risk heavy investments from the government. Nevertheless, such intelligent system can be beneficial for the people to reduce the traffic burden and allow people to make smart decisions to travel on selected routes and make their journey much easier and quicker.

INTEGRATION OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

The flow and transmission of information has transformed the daily activities of people. With a fast pace of information flow around the globe, it has sped up logistics and freight transportation movements as more and more trucks and trailers are able to make planned routes to avoid congested roads.

With the flow of reliable information, transportation systems can distribute information about planned routes, vehicle location and map integration to know about traffic conditions and avoid any roadway hazards or accidents.

Transportation for people is to offer convenience and make their long duration road trips much easier. Thus with the introduction of transportation technologies, people can alter their road patterns for quick and safer journeys along the road.
