Seán FitzPatrick has been found not guilty on all charges in the Anglo trial after denying providing unlawful financial assistance to 10 customers of the bank to buy Anglo shares in July 2008.

The jury will resume deliberations on two other directors  – Pat Whelan, 51, of Malahide, Co. Dublin and William McAteer, 63, of Rathgar, Dublin – over the provision of €619m of loans for a group of investors dubbed the ‘Maple 10’ and the family of bankrupt former industrialist Sean Quinn.

The jury of 12 had been deliberating for more than 14 hours since last Friday and returned the majority verdict in the landmark trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court today.

After the verdicts were delivered, Fitzpatrick smiled and shook hands with the co-accused, Pat Whelan and William McAteer.
