In our Ones to Watch section, we highlight some of the top movers and shakers in Ireland. This week it’s the turn of construction jobs platform ConX.

What is it?

ConX is a platform that connects contractors in the construction industry.

The platform lets hiring contractors create detailed job listings with images of work that needs to be done, while subcontractors create a profile that uniquely shows off their trade-related skills, validated licenses, and visual portfolios of previous work experience.

Future plans?

When compared to alternative solutions – which mainly consist of word-of-mouth, or generic classified sites –  the potential for a construction specific platform that connects contractors in real-time becomes clear.

The ConX vision is to become the standard digital profile of every construction worker in the world, so contractors can shift freely from one market to another.

How is it funded?

ConX raised an Angel round of AU$100,000 over 18 months ago. Running a very lean operation, the founders have custom designed, built and stress tested the platform and validated a scalable business model with +3,000 contractors in Sydney.

ConX is currently raising a seed round of +$1m to deeply penetrate the Australian construction market, which is roughly the same size as the US, equating to over 1/10 of the ~$10T global construction industry.

Who’s behind it?

ConX was founded by an all Irish team in Sydney, Australia. Annie Slattery, CEO, has a background in accounting and finance and is the driving force behind the business.

Keith Moore has been working in the construction industry for 15+ years – it was through his struggles with finding work and hiring workers that ConX was established. Jonathan Clarke, CTO, has been building software for 20+ years. A recent move to Kathmandu, Nepal has enabled ConX to scale up the engineering team cost effectively.
