Sandra and Cormac McKanna, co-founders of Sheology take the Business & Finance 60 second challenge.

Q. What was your first job?
I [Cormac] worked in my father’s retail outlets in Stillorgan, Dún Laoghaire and Belfast from my early teens. Sandra worked in Dunnes Stores in her teens.

Q. What would you regard as your greatest achievement to date?
We are proud of Sheology, MummyPages, MagicMum (acquisition) and SHEmazing. Hitting one million visits to the sites every month is a key milestone for us.

Q. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
We’re always on the lookout for what is working and what isn’t. We’re looking ahead, but not too far ahead.

Q. If you could step into the shoes of one business person for the day, who would it be and why?
I’d like be in the shoes of the CEO of my bank and figure out what’s happening with my loan application.

Q. In three words or less, how do you define success?
Sustainable, profitable, growth.

Q. How do you motivate yourself and your staff?
We look for people who are passionate about what they do and who are excited about being part of the team.

Q. How do your relax?
Relaxation is relative! I swim, she runs.

Q. What’s your motto?
The big secret in life is that there is no big secret. Whatever your goal, you can get there if you’re willing to work at it.

Q. What are your aspirations for the future of your business?
We see Sheology growing well beyond Irish shores and With the right support and the right team, we can grow this business into a substantial one.

Who are Cormac and Sandra McKenna?

Sandra and Cormac McKennaPrior to co-founding Sheology, Sandra McKenna held senior roles in sales and marketing in Mars Masterfoods and Page7Media. She combined her marketing knowledge and her life experience as a mum to two young girls to work with Ireland’s largest advertisers in conceiving and delivering marketing campaigns aimed at females. She is a graduate of UCD and the Michael Smurfit School of Business.

Cormac McKenna has previously held roles in ING Barings and KBC Bank, and brought his background in finance, strategy and digital operations to co-found Sheology in 2009. He works with key team members to guide the company on its sustainable growth path, both in Ireland and internationally. Cormac is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin and INSTEAD.
