Bord Gáis Energy, supplier of energy and services to over 710,000 homes, businesses and organisations across Ireland, has announced a range of innovative new measures to help bolster Ireland’s position on sustainable energy use with a focus on helping home and business owners to make better energy use choices and helping the environment while supporting the low carbon ambition of the Programme for Government.

Speaking about the initiatives, Catherine O’Kelly, Managing Director of Bord Gáis Energy said: “As a leading energy and services supplier we have always focused on helping customers get the most from their energy and driving value for money. The launch and implementation of our sustainability initiatives was fast-tracked as a result of COVID-19, to reflect the changes in working and living patterns for our customers right across the country and in turn support the recently launched Programme for Government and the ambitious targets for reducing carbon emissions in Ireland.

It is vital that we help consumers – both commercial and residential – move toward creating a lower carbon future and it’s just as important that we lead by example. We support the development of renewable generation sources and will continue to build upon our 200MW+ portfolio of renewable PPAs.

We have recently established key partnerships to support the development of Electric Vehicle charger installation. We’re excited to launch our Demand Side Management product into Ireland, an innovative energy management model which helps businesses take control of their energy supply and contribute to the green agenda.  For homeowners, in addition to our Hive Active Heating and boiler service offerings, we will offer house retrofit services and have just launched BER certification through our Local Heroes business. We will soon introduce an innovative green energy tariff for Irish customers, and we are making a commitment to retrain and upskill our Service Engineers to support the new low carbon economy, for example through heat pump and EV charger repair.  We are proud that these sustainability initiatives will help to bring about Ireland’s low carbon future and look forward to continuing this journey.”

Electric Vehicles

Bord Gáis Energy has established long-term arrangements to encourage the uptake of Electric Vehicles (EVs).  EVs will play a huge role in Ireland’s move to a lower carbon future and the company is committed to doing its part in helping to make a sustainable transport future a reality.  In addition to being preferred EV charger installation partner for Volkswagen, Seat, Škoda, and Ford, Bord Gáis Energy has also developed a strategic partnership with CarCharger.ie.  CarCharger.ie is a leading provider of EV charging facilities and is well established across the Irish market, both for installation services and the EasyGo.ie public charging network.  The partnership allows Bord Gáis Energy to offer EV charger installations to its existing customers, and the wider market through its Local Heroes business.

Energy Management

For businesses too, Bord Gáis Energy is supporting more sustainable choices on energy use and energy management.  Centrica Business Solutions, introduced to the Irish market by Bord Gáis Energy in 2018, offers an unrivalled suite of end-to-end energy management solutions including Combined Heat & Power (CHP) that help businesses remain in control of their energy. Through this partnership, Bord Gáis Energy is launching an innovative approach to energy management through Demand Side Management, which can help businesses turn their energy footprint into a source of competitive advantage.

Catherine O’Kelly added: “It is vital that we help consumers – both commercial and residential – move toward creating a lower carbon future and it’s just as important that we lead by example. We support the development of renewable generation sources and will continue to build upon our 200MW+ portfolio of renewable PPAs.  Also, in line with Centrica’s objectives, we’re committed to reducing our internal carbon footprint by 35%  by 2025*. We’re playing our part in helping customers to help the environment.”
