CIO 100 2018 Chief Information Officer

The Business & Finance CIO 100 recognises the top 100 Chief Information Officers working across some of the largest corporates in Ireland. This year’s event coincides with the Dublin Tech Summit and will take place at the Convention Centre Dublin on the 18 April from 6–8pm, where a panel will discuss the topic of ‘Information Influx: the Challenges Facing CIOs’. Here is section three of the four-section list.


Killian O’Connell, Head of Information Systems
Davy

The B.Sc. graduate in Computer Applications from DCU, Killian O’Connell, joined financial services firm Davy in 1995 as Software Analyst/Developer, working up through to IT Applications Manager (1999–2012) to become Head of Information Systems in 2012. Before joining the company he was a technical consultant at Procard and began his career as Software Analyst/Developer at Fintra Associates in 1991.

 


Larry Kiernan, Chief Information Officer EMEA, Senior Vice-President Global Technology & Operations
MetLife

Larry is EMEA CIO of MetLife and SVP of Global Technology & Operations. He previously served as CTO/CIO of Bank of Ireland between 2010 and 2014. Between 1993 and 2008 he occupied a wide range of senior positions at Dell, including CIO & Vice President of Dell EMEA and Vice President of Global Applications, Infrastructure and Managed Services.

 


Liam Molloy, Chief Information Officer & Head of IT
ESB

Molloy is CIO and Head of IT at ESB. He has 40 years’ experience in the electricity and gas industry in Ireland. Liam established ESB’s retail supply business, Electric Ireland, and served as General Manager for a number of years. He is a member of the ICC Digital Economy Commission and the ICS CIO Advisory Board, among others.

 


Liam O’Donoghue, Deputy Chief Executive Officer/Chief Operating Officer
Ibec

Liam joined Ibec in July 2011 as Director of Operations and Company Secretary before being promoted to Deputy CEO/COO, leading business transformation. His previous roles were COO, Byrne Wallace Solicitors; Director of Operations EMEA, Software Spectrum; Regional Financial Controller, Honeywell and Financial Controller, Borden. He is also a member of the governing body in the National College of Ireland.

 


Liam Waters, Director ICT
Coillte

Liam’s Coillte career began in August 2006 as IT Infrastructure and Services Manager before becoming Business Solutions Manager in 2012. From September 2015 onwards, he has been Program Manager, Head of ICT and Director of ICT, delivering the digital transformation and implementation of key IT structures across Coillte. He is a DCU graduate, receiving a B.Sc. in Applied Physics.

 


Margaret Troy, Vice-President Technology/IT Director
First Data

Margaret’s role ensures that First Data delivers its strategic focus of helping its clients grow their businesses. She has responsibility for infrastructure delivery and acts as a business partner for delivering business solutions and opportunities. Prior to First Data, Margaret was Head of IT, GE Money (Ireland), GE Capital; IT Manager, Halifax and IT Manager – Corporate Banking, AIB Capital Markets.

 


Mark Scully, Head of Information Services/Head of Information Technology
Irish Stock Exchange (ISE)

Mark has responsibility for delivering technology and data-centric business solutions for the Irish Stock Exchange’s customers covering trading technologies, information products, website and digital commerce. The ISE has over 35,000 securities issued by 4,000 organisations from 85 countries around the world listed on its four markets. As of last month, Mark has been Head of Information Services at Euronext Dublin.

 


Marko Javornik, Vice-President/General Manager Mobility & Travel
Comtrade Digital Services

Beginning his Comtrade career in September 2010 as Delivery Director at Comtrade IT Solutions and Services, Marko has built his way up the ladder to VP/GM Mobility & Travel having previously been Director – Service Europe, and VP/GM Automotive at the Comtrade Group. Comtrade Digital Services helps guide organisations through their business processes in integrating digital transformation to their company remit.

 


Markus Tesch, Group Chief Information Officer
Bank of Ireland

Markus Tesch became Group CIO of Bank of Ireland in 2017. He had previously been a partner at consultancy firm Deloitte since December 2009, before which he was Global Head of IT Architecture and Strategy at Barclays. He has also worked at DiamondCluster International, Booz Allen Hamilton and Accenture. Markus is a University of Illinois and Technical University Munich graduate.

 


Maurice Hennessy, Chief Information Officer and Director of Transformation
daa

Maurice’s responsibilities as CIO and Director of Transformation of the daa include developing and implementing the group IT strategy along with responsibility for all security and operations functions for Dublin and Cork Airports. He joined the airport operator as Group Head of Financial and Business Planning in 2007. Maurice is a graduate of the University of Limerick in Business Studies.

 


Michael McGrath, Group Head of Information Technology
UDG Healthcare

Michael joined UDG Healthcare – a global provider of outsourcing services to the pharmaceutical industry – in May 2015 as Group Head of IT. Previously he was appointed CIO for the Irish Government in leading ICT. Prior to this he was Executive VP of IT at ICON Plc and held senior IT roles in GE Capital, Woodchester Bank and ESB International.

 


Mike Tuohy, Co-founder and Chief Information Security Officer/Data Protection Officer
iCONX

Mike Tuohy is Co-founder and CISO/DPO at SaaS provider iCONX in Dublin. He was previously a consultant on network design and implementation at Karachaganak Petroleum and at Tengizchevroil, both in Kazakhstan, and a network engineer for Fujitsu UK and Ireland between 1991 and 1993. He holds a M.Sc. in IT & Business Management from NUI Maynooth.

 


Myra O’Neill, Chief Information Officer
Vodafone Ireland

Myra O’Neill joined Vodafone Ireland in 2015. She was previously at Microsoft, where she served as Director of Business Operations and most recently Director of Customer, Partner & Field Operations for the company’s EMEA operations. Before Microsoft she served in numerous senior roles at Telefónica and O2 Ireland from 2003 to 2013. She has also worked at PwC in consulting.

 


Nameer Kazzaz, Chief Technology Officer
Blueface

Nameer holds a special interest in open source technology in cloud and traditional telephony. He has been educated in Iraq and England in computer science, electronics and engineering. For two decades he has been pioneering the application of IP telephony, now as part of Blueface. Nameer was instrumental in developing one of the first Voice over IP (VoIP) networks.

 


Niall Hodson, Chief Operating Officer
EVO Payments International

Niall joined EVO Payments International in 2014. He was previously VP of Change & Technology at WorldPay. Niall has also served as a Senior Business Analyst at AIB, COO at OmniPay and Director at International Transaction Payment Solutions. EVO Payments is behind the BOI Payment Acceptance (BOIPA) brand in Ireland, having established a presence in 2014.

 


Niall Kelly, Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer
Netwatch

Niall started his career designing and manufacturing electronic weighing systems with Carlow-based company Keenan. Before establishing Netwatch he was Business Development Manager at Tuftcare Group from 1999 to 2002. He founded Netwatch with David Walsh in 2003, the first company in Europe to combine specialist video processing technologies with satellite communications, to provide preventative and immediate protection solutions.

 


Niamh Vianney Muldoon, EU Information Security Director
DocuSign

Niamh was the youngest Irish female to qualify as a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). As DocuSign EU Information Security Director she manages the development and implementation of a global information security programme across their international offices. She is also part-time Associate Faculty Lecturer in the School of Computing for the National College of Ireland.

 


Nick Atkinson, Chief Officer, Technology Operations, Europe/Director of Solutions, Architecture and Technology/Lead Architect
Visa

Nick has over twenty years’ experience in technology. Within Visa he has led the development of architecture and design across all of Visa European systems and has played a wider role developing the IT team. A former consultant for Accenture and IBM, Nick has worked with a number of blue-chip organisations, including the London Stock Exchange, Lloyds Bank and Visa.

 


Pat Balfe, Chief Technology Officer
Communicorp

Pat joined Radio Ireland/Today FM in 1998, becoming Director of Technical Services before joining Communicorp in 2008 under the same role. He has been CTO since 2011. Communicorp is responsible for Spin 1038, Newstalk, 98FM, Capital FM, Heart 96–107 and numerous media outlets in Ireland, the UK, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Jordan and Latvia.

 


Pat Moynihan, Chief Information Officer & Head of Services
Primark

Before becoming CIO for Primark in September 2017, Pat was IT Director for over five years at the retail company. He also held key senior tech roles at Telefónica O2 Ireland as CTO and Vodafone Ireland as Head of Product and Services Development as well as IT Director. Pat holds a B.Sc. in Computer Systems from the University of Limerick.

 


Patrick Condren, Chief Information Officer and Chief Product Officer
Sysnet Global Solutions

Dr Patrick Condren is the Chief Information Officer and Chief Product Officer at Sysnet Global Solutions, an Irish cybersecurity company with three million customers in 29 countries around the world. Patrick’s teams are charged with building the most innovative, ‘low-touch’, yet highly-secure cybersecurity product offerings for small-to-medium-sized businesses and deploying that cyber protection into the customers’ IT networks.

 


Paul Birkin, Chief Information Officer – UK & Ireland and EMEA
Experian

Paul joined business data firm Experian in 2016. He has also worked in a series of senior roles at EDS, Cisco Systems, Logica and Capita, as well as serving with the advisory boards of Alumentari and RequirementONE. In addition to strategy, he identifies the delivery of technology-driven global business change as an outcome of his result- and success-oriented approach.

 


Paul C Dwyer, Chief Executive Officer
Chief Risk International

Paul is CEO of Cyber Risk International, President of the ICTTF International Cyber Threat Task Force and Founder of the Irish Cyber Crime Task Force. He has trained with the likes of the US Secret Service and Scotland Yard, and advises Fortune 500 companies and military organisations. Paul’s book on cyber risk is entitled, The Art of Cyber Risk Oversight.

 


Paul Cutter, Chief Technology Officer
Paddy Power Betfair

Guiding some of the world’s biggest companies in the tech space, Paul has been CTO of Paddy Power Betfair since February 2014. He has also held the role of Director of Software Engineering at BSkyB, VP of Technology and Director of Software Engineering, both at AOL. Paul holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College London.

 


Paul Hogan, Founder and Chief Technology Officer/Director
Ward Solutions

Paul has been with Ward Solutions since 1997. Prior to this he has served as Director of 2SA+ and CEO (and founder) of Emissary Technologies, which specialised in web and mobile performance management solutions. He began his career as a Staff Officer in Networking and Security at the Department of Defence before becoming External Consultant at SmartForce.
