Irish Red Cross appeals to business

The Irish Red Cross (IRC) has appealed to Irish and international companies to continue supporting their national Covid-19 emergency response.

Since the coronavirus crisis began, the humanitarian organisation, established in Ireland in 1939, has been delivering a wide range of services to some of the most vulnerable people in the community through a network of 87 branches countrywide.

They have received funds and goods to help with their emergency pandemic appeal from companies including Fleming Medical, Aviva, Amundi and Bristol-Myers Squibb. Fintech company Revolut is helping process financial donations via their app and Listoke Distillery has provided 500 litres of hand sanitizer.

Several companies have already pledged their support in this battle against Covid-19, but we need more organisations to follow their lead.

They are now requesting further support to help with immediate running costs for its fleet of ambulances and support vehicles and donations of personal protective equipment and clothing for its volunteers. IRC Head of Fundraising Jocelino Jorge said:

We are reaching out to businesses as we need protective supplies, fuel and funds to keep our fleet of ambulances and support vehicles on the road and our trained medical responders working with the most vulnerable people in communities. Several companies have already pledged their support in this battle against Covid-19, but we need more organisations to follow their lead.

She added, “At this moment, our ambulances and volunteers are assisting with interfacility transfers and bringing people to vital medical appointments, such as chemotherapy. Our Red Cross volunteers are also distributing food and prescriptions to those who are unable to leave their homes.
