Bitbuzz has installed its 500th Wi-Fi hotspot this week in the Radisson Blu Hotel and Spa, Sligo. This landmark installation positions Bitbuzz as one of the leading providers of high-speed and secure Wi-Fi for hotels, coffee shops and public areas across Ireland and the UK.

Seamus Preston, general manager of Radisson Blu Hotel and Spa, commented: “We are delighted to be the 500th hotspot for Bitbuzz. Now we can offer our customers high speed, reliable and secure Wi-Fi. This new partnership with Bitbuzz, also opens up more opportunities to host a larger number of conferences and events. In the past year, we have seen a big increase in demand for a fast and reliable Wi-Fi service, thanks to the growth in use of smartphones, tablets and laptops amongst our guests. We look forward to meeting this increased demand through our new partnership with Bitbuzz.”

Russell McQuillan, business development director, Bitbuzz, puts the company’s success down to its flexibility and ability to keep ahead of the market: “Bitbuzz is delighted to announce its 500th hotspot in Sligo. We are growing strongly on a regional basis. In 2003, our first hotspot was in Dublin City Centre and the landmark 500th hotspot is now the west coast of Ireland, we continue to expand our reach across Ireland and the UK. No matter where the hotspot is located, there is a robust demand for a strong Wi-Fi offering, we will continue to meet these demands.”

The Globe Bar on Dublin’s George Street was the first Bitbuzz hotspot and in fact the first pub in Ireland to have Wi-Fi back in 2003. Today, 78% of Bitbuzz hotspots are based in the Republic of Ireland and 22% are located in the UK. The average amount of data downloaded on the Bitbuzz network per day in February was 1,831GB.

Bitbuzz recorded its most successful year ever in 2013 exceeding the significant milestone of two million registered users. The independently-run company also celebrated its 10th birthday last year. The company now has 2,353,429 registered users, 500 hotspots and is recording over  850,000 logins per month across Ireland and the UK.
