A nationwide omnibus survey commissioned by DoneDealJobs has revealed interesting employment trends in the Irish job market.

Some of the key findings from the research include:

  • 1 in 3 of all Irish adults surveyed (31%) are looking for a new job. Of those surveyed in paid employment 29% are looking for new jobs.
  • Money the most important factor when job hunting for males but work life balance more important for females
  • Job hunters relying on recruitment agencies (63%), social media (58%) and sites like DoneDealJobs (30%)

The survey findings which were released today show that 31% of Irish adults are currently in the process of looking for a new job, with which 1 in 5 (20%) describe themselves as ‘actively’ searching. A further 36% of Irish adults claim they are not actively looking for a new job, but keep an eye on roles advertised ‘just in case’. However, 1 in 4 Irish adults are not currently looking for a new job, nor are they keeping an eye on roles advertised in their preferred field.

The survey also explored the most important factors for those in the hunt for new jobs. Overall; money, location and work/life balance are of most importance to Irish adults when looking for a new job – with almost half (47%) claiming that money/salary is most important. Interestingly; males (55%) are much more likely than females (38%) to cite salary as the most important factor while females are much more likely to mention a work/life balance than their male counterparts. This highlights the different motivators that incentivise both males and females when searching for a new job. With males more likely to opt for a higher paid job with less regard for work/life balance than their female colleagues.

Interestingly, recruitment agencies (63%) are the most used channel amongst Irish adults when seeking a new job, followed by radio ads (58%) and social media (50%). Specific job advertising websites like DoneDealJobs.ie are used by over 30% of those in paid employment.

Speaking at the release of the findings Kevin Keating, commercial manager DoneDealJobs said: “The survey threw up some very interesting findings about how many people are looking for jobs and crucially what motivates them to move. Last year we set up DoneDealJobs to make the job hunt as easy as possible for both employees and employers. We offer a much more affordable method of recruiting for companies of all sizes. With more than 1 in 3 people in Ireland searching for a new job DoneDealJobs has a job for everyone. At present we have thousands of jobs available. From an employer’s perspective we have the most competitive jobs listing package in the market.”

The survey also highlighted the preferred device when looking up jobs online. Just fewer than 3 in 5 Irish adults currently in paid employment use a laptop most when searching for a job online. Females (60%) are much more likely to use a laptop than males (51%). Just over 1 in 5 use a desktop when searching for a job, this is higher amongst the over 45s. On the opposite side of the spectrum, the younger age cohorts are more likely to opt for their smart phone (19%) on the job hunt.
