Dublin City Mission to Mexico officially launched in City Hall today highlight opportunities for trade partnership.

Former Mexican Minister for Finance, Dr Pedro Aspe officially launched the 2015 Autumn Dublin City Mission to Mexico in City Hall today. Attended by Irish business and education leaders, the event highlighted economic opportunities that are open to Irish business and to higher education.

Organised by Dublin City Council in conjunction with Enterprise Ireland and the Latin American Trade Forum, the event set the scene for the Dublin City Civic Mission to Mexico. The mission, led by the Lord Mayor, will travel from September 28th to October 2nd with higher education leaders and business owners travelling with a view to expanding their business reach within the Mexican marketplace.

Mexico is Ireland’s largest trade partner in Latin America acting as a gateway into North America for Irish businesses through the North America Free Trade Agreement. Similarly, Ireland is a gateway to Europe for Mexican businesses looking to access the world’s largest single market.

Speaking about Ireland and Mexico’s growing trade relations Dr Pedro Aspe said, “Mexico is both a market of expanding opportunity and the natural gateway into the Americas. The growth of transatlantic trade between the Americas and Europe can be done through bridgeheads in Ireland and in Mexico.”

Peter Finnegan, director of Economy and International Relations at Dublin City Council added: “We are inviting Irish businesses and Higher Education Institutions who appreciate the business growth advantages offered by Mexico to journey with us on this Civic Mission. Increasingly, cities will be the gateways for companies wishing to expand into new markets. Dublin’s growing relationship with the capital of Mexico and the Mexico’s ‘Silicon Valley’ in Guadalajara offers a vehicle to help business, educational and cultural organisations access new market opportunities.”
