JPMorgan is our FDI of the Month, March 2023. Ireland is now the Wall Street titan’s largest EMEA location outside of the UK.
JPMorgan Chase, the multinational financial services company, now considers Ireland its biggest EMEA location outside the UK.
The company hired its 1,000th employee in Dublin in February, according to the Business Post. Last year, JPMorgan Chase acquired Global Shares, a Cork technology firm, for $750 million.
Including the employee count at Global Shares, JPMorgan now employs 1,300 people in Ireland, making its Irish workforce the largest in the EMEA region.
The $676m purchase of the Cork-based tech firm accounted for two-thirds of the value of all the deals in the Irish fintech sector in 2022.
Ireland as an accessway
Marc Hussey, head of Ireland at JPMorgan, spoke about the company’s Irish office in an statement to the Business Post, saying it “banks many large multinationals who use our country as an access way to the European marketplace”.
In a 2021 interview, Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase, said: “In Ireland, you all have done an exceptional job building this country […] Fastest-growing EU economy, it’s a melting pot of cultures from around the world: women and Indians and Asians.
“And consistent policy, good tax policy, a great education policy, a carbon tax but you’re offsetting it by helping those who are hurt by it on the low-income spectrum and that stuff is fabulous.”
