Investec has announced the opening of a new Munster office in Cork city at the iconic One Albert Quay development expanding its operations outside of Dublin and the creation of 10 jobs.

The Munster office will be staffed by a local team adding to the 240 strong Investec team in the Dublin office.

Investec provides specialist banking services in treasury; corporate finance and wealth and investment predominantly in the corporate SME sector and for those requiring wealth management services.

Ciaran Whelan, Irish-born global head of Specialist Bank for Investec, commented: “As a business, we’ve grown significantly in Ireland over the past five years providing competitive, value-added specialist services for corporate, SME and wealth management clients.”

He continued: “Investec continues to invest in Ireland, and sees great opportunity in the region and the country in the long term unlike many International banks that have down scaled their operations in Ireland. Cork city is a natural next step in the group’s expanding footprint in Ireland, housing many of the world’s leading companies in technology and pharmaceuticals.”

Head of Treasury at Investec Aisling Dodgson added: “We are now entering a new phase of economic growth nationally and the Munster region is a key driver of that. We know that Cork has 14% of the national population but contributes 19% to GDP and very much punches above its weight. We also know that there are more entrepreneurs in the south-west than in any of the other regions of the country.”
