There were new and notable appointments this week at EY Ireland, Aviva, Gyproc & Isover Ireland, Dentons and HOMS Assist. 


Dr. Loretta O’Sullivan, Chief Economist and Partner,
EY Ireland

EY Ireland has announced the appointment of Dr Loretta O’Sullivan who will be joining the company as Chief Economist and Partner starting in January 2023. Dr. O’Sullivan will be responsible for overseeing economic research and analysis for the firm and its clients while distilling the latest macro-economic data into actionable insights.  


Barry Cudmore, Chief Executive Officer,
Aviva

Aviva Life and Pensions Ireland DAC (Aviva Life and Pensions Ireland) has announced the appointment of Barry Cudmore as Chief Executive Officer, subject to regulatory approval.  Cudmore will take up his role in the first half of 2023 and will work closely with Interim CEO Dave Swanton to ensure a smooth transition.

Cudmore is currently Chief Financial Officer at the UK insurer LV= Life and Pensions and has extensive experience in senior executive roles over 25 years across several European insurance markets. This includes serving as Group Chief Financial Officer at Athora Holding and CEO of Aegon Ireland. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and studied Actuarial and Financial Studies at University College Dublin. He is married with three children and lives in Ireland.

Niall Evans, Sales Director,
Gyproc & Isover Ireland

Saint-Gobain has announced the appointment of Niall Evans to the role of Sales Director for the Gyproc & Isover businesses in Ireland.  Before this appointment, Evans held the role of National Sales Manager at Gyproc & Isover for 7 years where he developed a great understanding of the Irish markets and customers.  

He has held various commercial roles during his twenty-three years with Saint-Gobain and his insight and knowledge will help to drive business growth through new and existing customer relationships.  Evans takes over this role from Declan Smyth who retires on December 31st 2022.

Commenting on his appointment, Evans said, “It is an honour for me to take on the role of Sales Director and I look forward to working closely with all our customers throughout Ireland. Together with our excellent commercial team, I will continue to collaborate with all of our stakeholders into the future to enhance our successful working relationships.”

Evans is a Derry native and a graduate of the University of Ulster Jordanstown where he obtained his MBA.   


Ciara FitzGerald, Disputes Partner & Lesley Caplin, Of Counsel
Dentons

Dentons has announced the recruitment of Ciara FitzGerald as a Disputes partner and Lesley Caplin as Of Counsel in Dublin. FitzGerald is the ninth new partner appointment in 2022 at Dentons’ rapidly growing Dublin office.

Ciara FitzGerald joins the firm from McCann FitzGerald. She brings a broad range of expertise in complex commercial disputes and administrative law. She has significant experience in fraud and asset recovery and multi-jurisdictional disputes, as well as property litigation and banking disputes and regulation. 

Caplin also joins from McCann FitzGerald. She is a talented commercial litigator and an expert media defence practitioner with many years’ experience of managing civil jury actions where she has been involved in some seminal cases, and advisory work for media clients.

“Ciara is a mainstay of the Commercial Court and Lesley has advised on some of Ireland’s most complex commercial disputes,” said UK, Ireland and Middle East CEO Paul Jarvis. “Their arrival adds to the bench strength of senior talent that we now have in Dublin and is in line with our new five-year strategy to be the premium international law firm in Dublin.”

Stephen Clancy, Motor Engineer and Claims Assessor,
HOMS Assist

HOMS Assist has announced the appointment of Stephen Clancy as Motor Engineer and Claims Assessor to the law firm which operates nationwide. Clancy has over 20 years’ experience in the area of vehicle damage claims and the motor industry, and previously worked with Gerard M Doyle and Assess Ireland as a Motor Engineer Assessor, dealing directly with insurance companies.

His expertise as a motor assessor is unique in Irish law firms, as he acts as a conduit between insurance, legal and garages. In his new role, Clancy will specialise in all types of motor damage claims to achieve the best possible result for the client and aim to leave the client stress and hassle-free.

Working closely with garages and insurance companies, Clancy will  ensure the insurance company covers the cost of the work; and that clients secure the full value of the cost of the necessary repairs to their vehicle, including depreciation and diminished value; meaning there  is no cost to the person involved in the accident. HOMS Assist will also ensure that the person involved in the accident is provided with a rental car where necessary.

Speaking about his appointment, Clancy said “I am delighted to join the team at HOMS Assist, in a role that will take the burden away from clients in what is traditionally a stressful period following a motoring accident.
