Boann Distillery, a whiskey and gin artisan distillery in the Boyne Valley, is to create over 80 jobs as the home of Boyne Brewhouse.
Opening in 2016, the €20m facility will also house a visitor centre to host distillery and brewery tours, as well as a 120-seater restaurant, whiskey bar, private event space and gift shop.
Richard Bruton TD, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation said: “Today’s announcement of 80 new jobs in Drogheda, as part of a €20m investment supported by my Department through Enterprise Ireland, is a great boost for the town and the wider north-east region. Boann Distillery is a great example of the type of company we are trying to support – an Irish company, operating at the cutting-edge of its sector, focused on selling its goods around the world, and creating jobs in a regional town.”
Ged Nash TD, Minister for Business and Employment added: “This is really fantastic news for Drogheda and the wider Boyne Valley. I want to welcome the Boann Distillery to the area and in particular welcome home Pat Cooney, a Drogheda native, who has made his name in the drinks industry.”
The Boann Distillery and Boyne Brewhouse are the realisation of a long-held ambition of the Cooney family who have a long tradition in the Irish drinks industry.
Pat Cooney, CEO, Boyne Brewhouse said: “I’ve been in the drinks industry for the past 40 years and it has been a nagging ambition to establish a distillery of my own. To be able to realise this ambition, with the encouragement and participation of my wife and family, is a great bonus and to be able to establish this project in this super building in my home town is a multiple bonus.”
