Detailed plans for a new Dalymount Park at a cost of €20m have been revealed by Dublin City Council.
Dublin City Council completed the purchase of Dalymount Park from Bohemians in a deal worth €3.8m during 2015.
The authority expects the build to be completed in phases, with the first phase to include the laying of the artificial playing surface, as well as construction of the main stand.
The main stand would be positioned along the St Peter’s Road end of the ground, containing 4,500 seats as well as club offices and football museum.
New entrances to the ground would be constructed on St Peter’s Road and Connaught Road, with seating placed behind both goals in the creation of a 10,000 all-seater stadium.
The stadium’s design, which includes a complete realignment of the pitch, was drawn up by architects Gilroy McMahon.
The plans would involve Bohemians playing elsewhere for a period, possibly Tolka Park, while the development of the new stadium was taking place.
The rumours of Shelbourne FC’s relocation to the ground from Tolka Park have been well documented, but the issue is still to be resolved with the club’s board.
It is hoped that funding for the first phase of the redevelopment can be confirmed before the election.
Brendan Kenny, assistant chief executive, Dublin City Council, commented: “Obviously, it’s a project that could be done in phases, and that’s something we have looked at. We have done a feasibility plan and other work but we haven’t got the funding at this point in time. If that became available we could go straight to planning.”
