Social media professionals gathered today at the start of the inaugural Social Media Summit at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium on Lansdowne Road.

The global gathering of key influencers, leaders, investors and creators from the social media community continues tomorrow, with further internationally renowned speakers and workshops showcasing how social media can be used positively for success by employees and business owners.

Created by Samantha Kelly and Tom Williams and supported by Dublin City Council, the summit aims to help decision makers and marketers to stay ahead of the curve by shaping the role and future strategy for social media in their organisations.

Day two of the event will see the summit’s keynote speech delivered by Ted Rubin, the social media strategist who is one of Forbes Top 50 Social Media Power Influencers.

Other speakers on the day include Melonie Dodaro, author of the international bestseller The LinkedIn Code; Bill Liao, co-founder of the CoderDojo movement; and Ian Cleary, founder of RazorSocial.

Co-founder Samantha Kelly today said: “The Social Media Summit has been created to help Irish companies to engage more and show them how to use the latest platforms and tools available to them. The noted speakers and workshops show how brands, companies and even the small business owner working from home can excel through effective use of social media to generate strong customer loyalty, advocacy and ultimately sales.”

Peter Finnegan, Dublin City Council director of International Relations said: “This event helps bring the world to Dublin and Dublin to the world. The transformative power of social media in today’s world is growing. We would like to see Dublin as being a world leader and centre of excellence in shaping the future development of the social media industry. This summit provides a platform for the journey towards Dublin being a global leader in this digital technology niche.”
