Logistics supply chain solutions specialist STL Group has announced a multi-million euro deal that will see the Limerick-based company take delivery of 43 high-efficiency Scania Euro trucks as part of its expanding fleet.

The deal, valued at almost €5m, was brokered between STL Logistics, part of the STL Group and Westward Scania – with the support of local Scania dealer Nolan’s of Castleisland – and the new trucks will be available as part of STL Logistics all-Ireland transportation fleet.

STL Group already has more than 100 vehicles providing transport and delivery services to more than 200 companies including Diageo, Weetabix, Ballygowan Britvic, the Kerry Group and GlaxoSmithKline. STL operates in Ireland, the UK and Europe and works mainly with companies in the food and drinks, electronics, medical and packaging sectors with particular expertise in the FMCG category.

Michael O’Riordan, chief executive, Shannon Transport Group, said: “It’s a great deal, not only for ourselves but for our clients too, who will be able to avail of the proven reliability and outstanding performance of these vehicles to meet their various logistics needs. This is a significant investment for us and one that underscores our commitment to continuous improvement at every level of the business. We are always looking for ways – big and small – in which we can deliver even better services and solutions for our clients, and the new Scania fleet will certainly enhance our supply chain logistics capabilities.

Joe Crann, managing director, Westward Scania, added: “The Scania dealer network is Ireland’s strongest and most consistent HGV team and this support will ensure that delivery and after sales services of the new fleet is a smooth operation for STL Logistics. We are delighted with their choice – Scania’s Swedish engineering assures a best-in-class product offering and the new fleet’s capabilities perfectly meets the needs of the company’s high-volume logistics requirements.”
