The international real estate firm Hines and also Peterson Group have today announced that WeWork will be One Central Plaza’s new anchor tenant.

This announcement comes just a week after planning permission was granted by An Bord Pleanála for the redevelopment of the former Central Bank site on Dame Street.

What will the new Central Plaza comprise of?

Central Plaza will include retail, restaurants and cafés. The existing plaza will also be expanded to create a new dynamic streetscape towards College Green and along Fownes Street and Cope Street. This will establish a link between Grafton Street, College Green and Temple Bar.

Overall, Central Plaza is part of a masterplan that includes properties 6-8 College Green, No. 9 College Green and 2 Central Plaza, comprising the former Annex and Commercial buildings on Dame Street.

Other new Dublin office spaces

Another example of modern workspaces is Iconic, a new dynamic company in Dublin, offering customisable workspaces for collaboration and shared work environments.

Joe McGinley, Founder/CEO of Iconic, states the function of what the organisation does:

“Every time we open a building we’re trying to find new ways to make people mingle and network.”

Althaea Federlein, COO of Iconic, explains:

“It’s a sharing knowledge-based community that allows people to work much better. Each person you meet in a co-working community can enhance the strength of your business. That’s what co-working should be all about, not just a desk.”

The WeWork development will see an open-plan, breakout meeting space, incorporating BER A3 and LED lighting, creating a modern work environment and a desirable space to work.

WeWork’s EVP Real Estate, Patrick Nelson, said:

Expanding our Dublin portfolio with a location like Central Plaza really proves our commitment and dedication to this city. We recently opened our first location, which has been an incredible success, and we’ve seen interest from a mix of both start-ups and large corporate companies taking space with us. We look forward to welcoming new companies to this iconic location, adding to our already-flourishing ecosystem of members, who will no doubt benefit greatly from the nearby amenities, locality and transport.

Brian Moran, Senior Managing Director of Hines, said:

We are delighted that WeWork has opted for the iconic location of Central Plaza. With planning permission just granted for this flagship Dublin development, and leasing of the building’s office component now almost fully complete, this is yet another very positive step for this unique project. Central Plaza will accommodate over 1,300 professional workers and create over 300 new full- and part-time retail and hospitality jobs across the five existing buildings that make up the Central Plaza development.

WeWork has leased space across eight floors at One Central Plaza, with its occupation to take place during Q4 of 2019.
