Conor is the Country Manager at Bamboo, an app that allows customers to order and pay from hundreds of restaurants, cafes and hotels across Ireland seamlessly through its suite of ordering tools. It gives hospitality businesses a platform to offer advance ordering and contactless pickup for their customers. Revenues at the Dublin headquartered app have risen by more than 400% in the last year, with customers and orders rising by 230% and 136% respectively in the same period.

What was your first job?

My first job was with CK Signs and Display in Wexford. I’ve known the owners, Gavin and Com, since I was a kid and they’re now a supplier for Bamboo.

What would you regard as your greatest achievement to date?

Growing the Bamboo team. It has taken the experience we give our partners to a whole new level. The relationships we have forged with our community of partners are so important to us and these relationships will be crucial in our ambitious plans for Bamboo.

In three words or less, how would you define success?

Executing under pressure.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

“Read a book called The Hard Thing about Hard Things by Ben Horowitz.” A life-changing read!

What’s your motto?

Winners never quit.

How do you motivate yourself and your staff?

By hiring people who love their work. That’s the secret! If the journey is not enough to motivate the team, you are in trouble. I care deeply about getting Bamboo to a place where I believe it deserves to be and my brilliant team feels the same way.

How do you relax?

Watching my son Lenny playing football for the U8’s with Sheriff YC in Dublin. It’s a brilliant community club and I’m enjoying it as much as he is!

What are your aspirations for the future of the business?

We have recently launched a partnership with payments giant Square, which is a great show of confidence in the team at Bamboo. This allows us to grow and develop with a world-leading company, which will be a huge win for our partner community. We’re also in the process of building a team to support our growth. It’s a really exciting time.
