Asystec

AsystecWhat is it?

Asystec is a data management solution provider based in Ireland. Its primary focus is to design solutions to assist companies to manage, secure and identify their key data assets. Asystec provides independent solutions from a number of market leading vendors, choosing the most appropriate technologies for their customers’ needs. The company acts as a single source for customers providing them with end-to-end solutions.

Who’s behind it?

After 20+ years in the vendor and re-seller community in Ireland, founders Les Byrne and Brendan McPhillips recognised the demand for a focused, high value technical partner. Incorporated in February 2011, Asystec has grown from a two-person operation in Limerick to almost 20 people across offices in Limerick, Cork, Dublin and Belfast.

How is it funded?

Asystec is 100% Irish-owned and predominantly privately funded. The company has also received some employment grants from the Limerick County Enterprise Board.

Future plans?

Asystec recently opened a 5,000 sq. ft multi-technology briefing centre at its HQ in Limerick. Asystec is also making waves in the big data market and plans to develop a big data centre of excellence in the near future.

Comsys

ComsysWhat is it?

Comsys is an IT infrastructure services and support company that provides independent advice and best of breed technical solutions to organisations across a wide range of industries.
Comsys works to drive down costs, minimise risks and improve the efficiency of customer’s IT infrastructure. The company has won numerous awards and accolades including: EMC Partner of the Year 2014; VCE Partner of the Year 2014; and Tech Excellence award winner in 2014 from IT Architect of the Year Awards.

Who’s behind it?

Comsys is owned by the managing director, Ben McGahon. Comsys are experts in the areas of cloud architecture design and implementation; storage and data back-up; virtualisation solutions and data management. The company has built strong partnerships with some of the industry’s leading vendors such as: EMC, VMware, VCE, IBM, Oracle, Symantec, Cisco and Dell.

How is it funded?

Comsys is a self-funded company that has grown organically.

Future plans?

Comsys is rapidly establishing itself as the leading Irish supplier of converged infrastructure IT systems, which represent a new approach for how IT environments will be designed and managed over the next 10 years.

Cathx Ocean

Cathx OceanWhat is it?

Cathx Ocean design, manufacture and supply advanced imaging solutions. Through innovative engineering, Cathx Ocean delivers products and integrated solutions that allow imaging and measurement capabilities for the subsea environment. With depth ratings to 6,500m, Cathx products are deployed across industries including: oil and gas; oceanographic research; security and defence and professional diving.

Who’s behind it?

Cathx Ocean was founded in 2009 by Adrian Boyle and Michael Flynn. Through innovation in engineering and product development, their ambition is to change how subsea visual and measurement data and information is collected, analysed and communicated.

How is it funded?

Cathx Ocean won the Best High Growth Company Award in InterTradeIreland’s All-island Seedcorn Competition securing a €25,000 cash prize. After taking part in the competition, Cathx Ocean raised new equity finance.

Future plans?

In May, Cathx Ocean announced 50 new jobs for Kildare following a new deal to supply US company BlueFin. Cathx Ocean currently employs 30 people in Ireland. The company is growing and expects to create over 50 new jobs in the next 24 months.

Spanish Point Technologies

Spanish Point TechnologiesWhat is it?

Spanish Point Technologies is an innovative software company working with Microsoft technologies to provide business systems which remove complexity, increase productivity and connect users to critical business information.

Spanish Point employs technologies such as SharePoint, Microsoft Office, BizTalk, SQL Server and its own LookupPoint to build great solutions.

Headquartered in Dublin, Spanish Point’s innovative LookupPoint technology displays line of business information directly in Microsoft Office and is a great example of the power of the Microsoft Office platform and Spanish Point’s design skills.

Who’s behind it?

Spanish Point was founded by Donal Cullen, CEO and John Corley, CTO and is driven by a group of developers who come from everywhere from Donegal to Venezuela.

How is it funded?

According to Spanish Point: “The short answer — our great customers. The longer answer is we are self-funded through retained earnings.”

Future plans?

The team at Spanish Point are excited by cloud computing and mobile. With Microsoft Office 365 and Windows Azure, the company is designing business applications with compelling user experiences.
