In our Ones to Watch section, we highlight some of the top movers and shakers in Ireland. This week we feature Smart Routes.

What is it?

Smart Routes uses machine learning to help businesses plan multiple delivery routes and manage their fleet more efficiently.

It’s a delivery route planning software with smart algorithms capable of finding the most efficient routes, accounting also for time constraints, vehicle capacity, traffic at any time of the day and more.

The software can be accessed online for a monthly fee and saves you from the hassle of developing an in-house solution, which would be extremely costly. Furthermore, Smart Routes also has a mobile app for reporting in real time to help you monitor if the drivers are on schedule.

Smart Routes has been in development since early 2015. It went live in August 2017 and since then it has acquired customers on two continents.

Smart Routes’ product is for any company who does in-house deliveries, with five or more vehicles in their fleet. The company is looking to reduce the cost-per-delivery by up to 33% to make in-house deliveries as cost-effective as outsourcing, and easier to monitor and manage.

Who’s behind it?

The company is led by David Walsh (CEO) and Calvin O’Callaghan (COO). They met several years ago at the Cork Startup Weekend, a competition where entrepreneurs race to create an MVP in just 3 days.

David has over ten years of bespoke software development experience whilst Calvin has spearheaded the scale of three Irish start-up companies over the last 5 years.

How is it funded?

Smart Routes is currently self-funded, the majority of current funding is coming organically through its sales. In October 2018, the company will be seeking further finance for further expansion into Europe.

Future plans?

Smart Routes is partnering up with numerous resellers across Ireland and the UK to continually grow its customer base. The company is looking to take on new staff for its aggressive growth so be sure to get in touch if you want to be part of the most progressive delivery route planning solution on the market.
