Businessman, political activist, songwriter and author Sir Bob Geldof will be honoured for his Outstanding Contribution to Ireland at the 42nd Business & Finance Awards, a prestigious awards programme celebrating the outstanding achievements of some of the most most outstanding global business, political and social leaders.

Since it’s launch in September 1964 as Ireland’s first business magazine, Business & Finance has celebrated over 50 years delivering insightful news, comment and analysis to and about the Irish and international business community.

The Business & Finance Awards Programme was established in 1974 and over the past 42 years it has become the longest running and most coveted business awards programme in Ireland.

Born in 1951, Sir Bob Geldof is one of Ireland’s most successful exports and is known throughout the world for his many talents and passions.

Starting his career as a successful musician, actor and songwriter, he has gone on to both inspire a generation and make prolific social changes as a philanthropist and political activist.

An inspiring and influential public speaker, he speaks on a range of topics and uses his vast personal experiences to both provoke and motivate his audience.

Sir Bob Geldof has received a number of awards in recognition of his charity work, including a Man of Peace award in 2005 and nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize in both 2006 and 2008.

Previous recipients of the Outstanding Contribution to Ireland Award, which was launched by President Clinton in 2010, include Senator George Mitchell, former British Prime Minister Sir John Major and last year former President of Ireland and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Mary Robinson presented by Kofi Annan.

The 2016 Business & Finance Awards will take place on December 15th at The Convention Centre Dublin. To view a gallery from last year’s event, click here.
