FDI of the Month March 2025: Microsoft foresees new investments strategy in Ireland

Microsoft, the international technology firm, is outlining a new investments strategy, aiming to establish their AI key operations in Ireland.


Microsoft is a technology company specialising in software, cloud computing, and AI. Its core products include the Windows operating system and Microsoft 365 productivity suite which power businesses and individuals worldwide. The company focuses on digital transformation, enterprise solutions, and innovation in areas like AI, cybersecurity, and collaboration tools.

Microsoft established operations in Dublin in 1985. Since then, the company has grown into an international hub, employing over 4,000 people across engineering, software development, data centres, and other functions. 

The international firm now foresees a new investments strategy in Ireland, aiming to further strengthen their R&D teams and to pioneer new AI-oriented technologies. The company wishes to create over 500 news positions over the next 4 years. Microsoft plans to keep investing to make Ireland their key centre for AI development and innovation.

To underline its long-standing impact on the Irish economy for the last 40 years, Microsoft received a Special Recognition award from IDA Ireland in March.
