Great Irish companies to be recognised at 2016 Business & Finance Awards

Ahead of the 2016 Business & Finance Awards on December 15th, we are featuring the top 100 companies that have shaped the Irish business landscape.

The 100 Great Irish Companies are a catalogue of diversity – but they are united by their drive and focus.

100 organisations that, taken together, can provide a picture of the Irish economy’s best side, in all its underlying strength: profitability, stability, investment, job creation and exports.

The Business & Finance Awards programme is Ireland’s premier business awards programme and has become a major highlight of the annual business calendar.

Businessman, political activist, songwriter and author Sir Bob Geldof will be honoured for his Outstanding Contribution to Ireland at the 42nd Business & Finance Awards.

Starting his career as a successful musician, actor and songwriter, he has gone on to both inspire a generation and make prolific social changes as a philanthropist and political activist.

Sir Bob Geldof has received a number of awards in recognition of his charity work, including a Man of Peace award in 2005 and nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize in both 2006 and 2008.

Susan Whelan, CEO of Leicester City Football Club will be honoured with a Global Irish Outstanding Achievement in Business Award at the awards.

Dublin-born Whelan has played a pivotal role in Leicester City’s incredible success as this year’s winners of the Premier League. An astute businesswoman, Whelan has worked extensively in trade and retail. She began her career in her family jewellery store, moving on to work with Aer Rianta before taking up a number of retail jobs working internationally.

President of Ireland Michael D Higgins will also be honoured with the inaugural TK Whitaker Award for Outstanding Contribution to Public Life.
