“No two days are ever the same!” – 60 Seconds With Jonathan Long, Head of Operations at Pure Telecom

Jonathan Long is the Head of Operations at Pure Telecom. With over 25 years of experience, Long leads the company’s operational strategy, managing a team of dedicated telecoms professionals to ensure seamless delivery of high-quality connectivity solutions to customers across the country.

What was your first job?

My very first summer job was at my local school, where I did everything from general building maintenance to painting and decorating!

It was my first taste of the working world and was a real eye-opener in teaching me the importance of hard work.

What are your main priorities and goals in your current role?

As the Head of Operations for Pure Telecom, my role encompasses a wide range of priorities and responsibilities.

My main goal is to maximise business sales while managing supplier relationships.

I’m also involved in product management, onboarding and ensuring all of our products are seamlessly provided to our residential and business customers.

What pushed you to pursue a career in this field?

I have always had a strong interest in the telecommunications industry, particularly given how fast-moving and dynamic the sector is.

As well as that, I enjoy the variety that this type of work brings. Without a doubt, no two days are ever the same!

How do you motivate yourself and your team?

My own motivation stems from my desire to genuinely deliver the perfect telecommunications experience for our customers. At Pure Telecom, we place great value on our customer relationships, which is why we are committed to providing the most efficient service possible.

When it comes to my team, I lead by example, using my own work ethic and standards to inspire and motivate those around me.

In one sentence, how would you define success?

Customers are placing repeat business with us, following a positive experience from previous products and services that we have delivered for them, coupled with an onward recommendation for others to do the same.

How do you relax?

To relax, I enjoy spending time with family, whether that’s playing cricket with my two daughters or going for runs with our Red Setter, Jasper. Other than that, I love a game of tennis, or perhaps, unusually, I find cleaning my car to be a surprisingly therapeutic experience!

What is your favourite (non-business) book?

When I stop talking, you’ll know I’m dead, by Jerry Weintraub, a movie producer’s hilarious account of what it takes to make it to the top.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Honestly, just to be myself because at the end of the day, that’s all I can be.

How do you handle adversity?

I try to break down any issues, step-by-step, working through them until I arrive at a solution (or several).

What are the aspirations for the future of the business?

Our key priority is to continue to deliver exceptional service to our customers.

That said, we’re actively looking to expand our network of managed service provider resellers while deepening relationships with our existing MSP partners. We look forward to a busy H2 ahead!
