The number of jobs advertised online in the second quarter 2014, April to June, has increased by 4% according to the quarterly IrishJobs.ie Jobs Index. Year on year, jobs advertised have increased by 2%, compared with the same time last year, Q2, 2013.
The annual increase which points to a gradual recovery in the jobs market, is buoyed by key sectors increasing year on year, most markedly: Medical and healthcare, up by 19%; science and pharmaceuticals, up by 27% and transport and warehousing, up by 38%.
Safann MacCarthy, marketing director, IrishJobs.ie comments: “The Jobs Index brings more positive news on the jobs market. A marginal annual increase in jobs advertised online and a fifth consecutive quarter of growth point to a gradual improvement, reflecting overall economic recovery.”
She continued: “There is a concentration of jobs in production, science, hotel and catering, IT and financial services sectors across the country. With employers confident about hiring expectations, there is a continued need to support the recruitment plans particularly for SMEs in Ireland.”
