The shortlist for the 2014 David Manley Emerging Entrepreneur Awards has been announced and features an inspirational group of people to watch in 2014.
These include:
- Graham Jones, Solas Project – A man who was inspired by his experience as a solicitor in criminal defence to tackle youth crime.
- Anthony Glynn and James Sherlock, Ar Nua Tec – who are enabling people to make their own electricity.
- Fiona McKeon, Bizworld Ireland – a former educator who decided to take entrepreneurship into the classroom.
- Simon O’Connor and Trevor White, The Little Museum of Dublin – a writer and a composer who created a museum comprising exhibits entirely donated by the people of Dublin.
- Ollie Fegan, Temptster – a guy who developed an app which was nominated as one of Europe’s top startups in 2013.
- Louise Grubb, Q1 Scientific – a businesswoman who saw a gap in the market for stability storage chambers for pharmaceuticals.
- Giustina Mizzoni, CoderDojo/Hello World Foundation – a girl who is supporting the scaling and connecting of the CoderDojo community.
- Liz Nilsson, Olga Tiernan, Ruth Doorley, Jennifer Phelan, Liz Walsh and Caroline Ryan, co-founders of Print Block – a group of textile artists and designers who set up Ireland’s only textile print facility.
- And the 10 Days in Dublin Festival co-founders, who founded Ireland’s only completely open-format festival.
The overall winner and winner in each of the three categories – arts, business and social – in the 2014 David Manley Emerging Entrepreneur Awards will be announced at a ceremony in the offices of Mason, Hayes & Curran on Thursday, January 30th 2014 by Dr Chris Horn, chair of the panel of judges and guest speaker, 13 year old Jordan Casey, founder and CEO of Casey Games. The winner will win a prize package worth over €100,000 – comprising of €10,000 in cash and mentoring and consultancy services from a range of companies.
Business to Arts, Social Entrepreneurs Ireland, business innovation centres, incubation centres and enterprise support agencies work with the David Manley Award Committee in implementing the Award scheme. Dublin Chamber of Commerce and Ulster Bank are the main sponsors of the Awards.
The €100,000 mentoring and consultancy services are provided by Deloitte, Business & Finance, Enterprise Ireland’s Mentor Network, Content Kings, grainne byrne PR, Image Now, Islandbridge Brand Direction, Kendlebell, Mason Hayes & Curran, Newmarket Consulting, Newmarket Partnership, Pigsback.com and Thesaurus Software.
