Stock-trading app Lightyear hits European investment world

Lightyear is an online investment platform which offers users 3% interest on uninvested funds. They also offer access to over 3,500 stocks, a multi-currency account and free ETFs.

Founded by Martin Sokk and Mihkel Aamer, Lightyear, a UK-based stock trading app, aims to bring a “borderless mindset to the European investment world.”

The web

The app expanded to the web in April of this year. Over half of Lightyear’s customers, 57%, said that access to a web platform is important for them. Since launching across Europe last July, web has actually been Lightyear’s most sought after feature.

The full investing process can now be managed straight from the web. This includes researching as well as buying and selling stocks and ETFs, tools to self-manage your portfolio, tracking earned interest and currency conversions.

Key features

Key features of Lightyear include over 3500 international stocks and ETFs, over 200 UK stocks, a simple and intuitive user platform, and low and transparent pricing.

Lightyear has no account or custody fees, and it is free to deposit by bank transfer. There are also no execution fees when investing into ETFs, other fees may apply.

Multi-currency account

With Lightyear, you can hold balances in sterling, euros and US dollars at the same time. By keeping funds in a preferred currency, you can avoid the need to convert them back and forth each time you want to purchase a foreign instrument, which saves money.

Earnings calls

In collaboration with Quartr, earnings calls can be listened to directly from the Lightyear app.

Slide decks of these calls, as well as reports, are all easily accessible in your app.

Quartr brings together all earnings calls information that has historically been difficult to access and scattered on individual companies’ sites. The data will be presented from right within the app, allowing you to access the earnings calls audibly and visually immediately.

Why invest with Lightyear?

There has been increased interest on uninvested funds from 2.75% to 3% for all EUR balance holders within the last week.
