Smurfit Kappa continues to strengthen its presence in Mexico using state-of-the-art technology in its new plant
The new Tijuana plant, which began operating last month, uses state-of-the-art technology to produce folding carton packaging solutions including boxes and trays. Diverse folding techniques are used to produce both flat and pre-glued products that meet customer’s needs in both the supply chain and retail environment and the company has developed a range of sustainable packaging solutions for sectors including consumer electronics, industrial, medical and food.
Speaking at the opening of the new plant, Eduardo Rubio, Vice President of Packaging for Northern Mexico, said:
The inauguration of this important operation reflects the Smurfit Kappa Group’s long-term commitment to Mexico and its confidence in the growth of the country’s economy and its markets.
The new Tijuana plant is the third of its type in Mexico, where it already operates one folding plant in Cerro Gordo and another in Naucalpan. This is Smurfit Kappa’s latest investment in Mexico and follows on from the unveiling of the PM6 paper machine in the Los Reyes Paper Mill last year and an extensive converting plant modernisation project.
