FDI of the Month June 2026: OpenText creates 400 jobs in Cork and Galway

OpenText is our FDI of the Month for June 2026. Founded in 1991, OpenText has grown from a university research project behind the first online Oxford English Dictionary into one of the world’s largest software companies.

OpenText, a Canadian tech company specialising in developing cloud, AI and cybersecurity tools, has announced a €105 million investment. It is expected to create 400 jobs over the next three years at its Irish operations.

“This investment expands our EMEA R&D and operations capacity to deliver the trusted AI, cybersecurity and cloud capabilities our clients already rely on globally, while giving European organisations greater regional support and flexibility across the cloud environments of their choice,” Shannon Bell, Chief Digital Officer & Chief Information Officer at OpenText, said

For over 35 years, OpenText has aided companies in protecting and transcending their transactional data. With an additional focus on agentic AI, OpenText’s research is discovering how agents can be utilised most effectively.

The company currently employs 275 people across Galway and Cork, with the majority based at its Cork operation.

The latest announcement will double its investment in Ireland while expanding its capabilities to support customers across the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.

IDA Ireland described the announcement as the largest single investment in Ireland by a Canadian-headquartered technology company, marking a significant milestone in technology and economic ties between Canada and Ireland.

“It reflects the strength of our longstanding relationship and will help create new opportunities for innovation, trade and high-value job creation between our two countries,” Micheál Martin, the Taoiseach who was present during the announcement, said. “Furthermore, as Ireland prepares to take up the EU Presidency, investments of this scale underline our role in shaping Europe’s competitiveness in AI, digital infrastructure and innovation and reflect the kind of international partnership that will be central to Europe’s future growth and resilience.”
