Medtronic plc has announced the establishment of a new European software development hub in Galway for its Patient Care Systems (PCS) division, creating an initial 85 jobs focused on cardiac digital health innovation.

The new hub will serve as a global Centre of Excellence for cardiac digital health, developing cloud-based platforms and clinical software that connect patients, clinicians, and implanted cardiac devices in real time.

Commenting on the announcement, Alex Mann, Vice President of Patient Care Systems at Medtronic, said the investment reflects the company’s confidence in the talent and engineering expertise available in the West of Ireland.

“Our vision is to build an enduring software capability that advances cardiac care, accelerates innovation, and delivers solutions that empower clinicians and improve patient outcomes worldwide,” he said.

Announcing the investment in Galway alongside An Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Medtronic said the expansion reflects its confidence in the region’s engineering talent and medtech ecosystem.

The new PCS hub builds on Medtronic’s more than 40-year presence in Ireland and supports the company’s continued investment in connected, data-driven healthcare solutions.
