Hiring push comes less than six months after company’s official launch in the country
Square, Inc. has announced plans to expand its European headquarters in Ireland. Square is creating an additional 30 jobs in Ireland bringing the company’s total workforce to 150 employees.
This continued commitment to Ireland from Square, Inc follows the recent launch in Ireland in May 2021, which gave all merchants and enterprises across Ireland access to Square’s innovative ecosystem with the tools they need to start, run, grow, and adapt their businesses.
The new open roles include positions across Square’s Seller and CashApp business units. Candidates will have a breadth of opportunities to consider across a variety of business functions, including customer success, software engineering, sales, product management, marketing, legal, finance, and accounting. Depending on the role, successful candidates will have the chance to be based in Dublin, the company’s European headquarters in Ireland, or in some cases work remotely within Ireland.
The company is supported by the Irish Government through IDA Ireland.
Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Leo Varadkar TD said: “I’m really happy to see Square expand already, after only officially launching its products here recently. It’s a real vote of confidence in Ireland’s offering. These 30 new roles will bring the company’s overall workforce here to 150 people. Square is a fantastic addition to the payments industry here. I wish the team continued success as they grow their operations.”
“Dublin has been a great base for us in Europe for several years. We’re excited to continue to focus our efforts on our growth in the region and investing in new roles here in 2021 and beyond”, said Jason Lalor, European Executive Director at Square.
“It’s an exciting time to join the business in Europe. We launched in Ireland earlier this year, and this has been followed by France in September, with Spain to follow in 2022. We are building teams to bring Square’s technology to customers across Europe and beyond, both for our business customers and the broader Square business.
“Successful candidates who join Square can expect to work on purposeful projects that further our purpose of economic empowerment, creating a fairer financial system for all.”
Commenting on the news, Minister for Financial Services Sean Fleming TD said: “I am delighted to welcome Square’s investment in Ireland. It once again demonstrates Ireland’s potential to be a leading hub for Fintech. This rapidly growing sector offers exciting opportunities for experienced executives and graduates across the country and an environment in which they can thrive. The development of the Fintech sector is one of my priorities in the Ireland for Finance strategy.”
Welcoming the announcement, Kieran Donoghue, Global Head of International Financial Services at IDA Ireland said: “This investment by Square will further enhance Ireland’s reputation as a centre for both digital payments and the commingling of finance and technology. Square is a global leader and innovator in the payments space. The functions being expanded in Ireland will enable the company to serve a growing customer base in Europe. I wish the company every success with this next phase of its development”.
