“In Chinese, the word for ‘crisis’ contains two characters – Danger & Opportunities” – 60 seconds with Liang Feng of Manna Drone Delivery

Liang Feng is the Commercial Operations Lead for Manna Drone Delivery.

What was your first job?

My first job was assistant to my father (University Professor). It wasn’t an actual job but it was a great experience to get my first taste of managing complex diary & travel arrangements.

What pushed you to pursue a career in this field?

I started my career in hospitality, then travel tech, now drone delivery. Curiosity is the main driver through my career moves.

What would you regard as your greatest achievement to date?

Being a full time working mom while caring for two little ones (not so little anymore). I had a rather busy work schedule, including 50% international travel. It wasn’t easy to juggle the two sides, but I was lucky enough to have support at both work and home.

Career wise, would you do anything differently?

My past experience is what makes me unique, so I wouldn’t change a thing.

In one sentence, how would you define success?

Success is a sense of fulfilment from either achieving a major goal, or making a difference to someone.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

“Do what you’re afraid to do.”

How do you motivate yourself and your staff?

Motivation is personal and unique to everyone. The alignment of personal goals to business goals is the key. Every individual can be easily motivated to reach their own goals and at the same time contribute to the overall business goal.

How do you handle adversity?

I like to break down every situation into smaller pieces, then resolve them one at a time. Also, in Chinese language, the word for “crisis” contains two characters – Danger & Opportunities. Focusing on the opportunity element is the best way to get through any difficult situation.

How do you relax?

Travel, even simply planning a trip will make me relax and unwind. I love to travel to a new country or town, meet new people and experience a new culture. It breaks my everyday routine, which offers a completely new perspective.

What are your aspirations for the future of the business?

That’s easy, it’s our company mission “to improve the world by making lightning-fast suburban deliveries affordable, green and safe.”
