Dublin Tech Summit saw thousands of attendees stream through the doors of the Royal Dublin Society yesterday for day 1 of the fastest-growing tech festival in Europe.
Attendees had a stellar line-up to choose from with talks by tech and cultural leaders from across the globe on two stages, one located in a big top marquee. The initial stages of a start-up pitch competition took place, a Podcast booth hosted live-streaming sessions to attendees and a number of workshops, demonstrations and exhibitor stands all catered to the tech-curious attendees.
Founder and Executive Chair of S4 Capital Sir Martin Sorrell; Co-Founder of Oculus Jack McCauley; NASA AI leaders Dr Omar Hatamleh and Yasser Haridi; award-winning Irish composer Eimear Noone and Co-founder of Akara Robotics, Niamh Donnelly were just some of the speakers who were forthright in their views and predictions for how tech is changing our world.
One of the highlights was a panel discussion on the theme, AI: Friend of Foe to the Creative Soul? Eimear Noone, Conductor and award-winning Irish composer spoke passionately about the need for guardrails. She said: “The onus is on us as creatives to protect our human generated creativity.”

Sir Martin Sorrell, spoke with Tom Lyons, CEO of The Currency on the theme AI Now and Next. He said advertisements will be quicker to produce which will have an impact on the fee structure. “Ads will be much more personalised and media planning and buying will be more automated and effective.”

Jack McCauley gave a keynote which charted the journey of AI. Jeremy King, Senior Vice President of Engineering and CTO of Pinterest spoke about the importance of building a more human (and humane) internet with AI.

Dr. Jennifer Cassidy, Diplomacy and Tech lecturer at the University of Oxford and Robert Atkinson, President of the Washington DC public policy think-tank Information Technology and Innovation Foundation spoke with Sarah Freeman, Managing Editor of Business & Finance, about whether technology can solve humanity’s ills and Seamus Lennon, VP of Operations EMEA at Threatlocker gave a workshop on creating successful malware.
