Q. What was your first job?

I worked part-time work in H Williams supermarket and Mulveys Hardware shop in Dundrum.

Q. What would you regard as your greatest achievement to date?

Helping our business reach a place where it can thrive and grow without the family members’ involvement. That of course doesn’t mean we don’t like or want to be involved!

Q. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Don’t get too taken up with the things of this life, none of us are getting out of here alive! Get to know as much as you can about the next one, as it goes on forever.

Q. If you could step into the shoes of one business person for the day, who would it be and why?

Not necessarily a business person, as he is a motorbike racer, but I would love to step into Valentino Rossi’s shoes. Otherwise, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz.

Q. In three words or less, how do you define success?

Work, life, balance.

Q. How do you motivate yourself and your staff?

Fear of failure. Imagine not achieving your potential just because you failed to put in the effort.

In Dairyglen we have a great culture of personal responsibility to the team and the business which helps us to do our best for each other and ourselves.

Q. How do you relax?

I mountain bike as often as I can and keep a keen interest in motorbikes.

Q. What’s your motto?

Treat others the way you would like to be treated.

Q. What are your aspirations for the future of your business?

In Jim Collins’ words, ‘To be great’.

Imagine not achieving your potential just because you failed to put in the effort

A FAMILY AFFAIR

In 1991, Edgar and Geoffrey Delaney established Dairyglen with a focus on delivering high-quality soft serve ice-cream and cutting edge serving technology to the country.

Later joined by Philip Delaney in 1994, Dairyglen success was built on providing a ‘one stop’ soft serve solution for retailers nationwide.

Dairyglen is an all-Irish, family owned and run business which has been providing excellent soft-serve ice-cream solutions to our customers for more than 25 years.

The company prides itself on supplying 100% real dairy soft serve ice-cream to the Irish market. Smooch was purchased in 2005.
