A vote by the full 100-member senate will now be scheduled, but Mr Crawford’s the endorsement by the foreign relations committee has most likely secured the nomination.
Edward Crawford, the grandson of Irish immigrants from Cork, has been approved by the US Senate Committee for the role of US Ambassador to Ireland, a role which has remained unfilled since Kevin O’Malley vacated the post after the Trump inauguration. US Chargé d’Affaires Reese Smyth has filled the ambassadorial duties in the interim.
Billionaire businessman
Mr Crawford founded Park-Ohio Holding which operates more than 125 manufacturing sites and supply-chain facilities around the world. He founded the company in 1960 and it has reached revenues of $1.9 billion. Mr Crawford stepped down as chief executive last year ahead of his ambassadorial nomination. His son Matthew, formerly chief operating officer, replaced him.
