There were new and notable appointments this week at Arthur Cox, Pinergy, Netwatch Group, Aperee Living, IPUT, Inis Offshore Wind and IEA.

Arthur Cox has announced the appointment of two new partners in the key areas of Environment and Planning and Corporate and M&A.

Jacinta Conway and Amy McDermott were named Partner, Environment and Planning and Partner, Corporate and M&A respectively. Both were previously senior associates with Arthur Cox.

Commenting on the appointments, Geoff Moore, Managing Partner, Arthur Cox, said, “I am delighted to announce these appointments and I welcome Jacinta and Amy to the partnership. They are both committed to working closely with their clients so they can deliver commercially-focused, practical advice in today’s uncertain environment.”

The firm has 100 partners and 740 members of staff, with offices in Dublin, Belfast, London, New York and San Francisco

Jacinta Conway has practised exclusively in the area of Environment and Planning for many years, and has played a key role in advising on some of the most complex and significant transactions and litigation in the country.

She has a special focus on the renewable energy, waste and natural resources sectors, and specialises in de-risking projects at the outset of their life cycle.

Conway has also extensive litigation experience in planning and environmental judicial review challenges, planning injunction proceedings and criminal enforcement prosecutions.

Amy McDermott specialises in advising a wide range of domestic and international clients on all aspects of corporate and commercial law across a range of industries and sectors.

Her key areas of expertise include mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, loan portfolio sales, joint ventures and private equity transactions.

McDermott has particular experience in transactions and advisory work in the renewable energy, infrastructure and financial services sectors.


Martin Carroll, Chief Operating Officer,
Pinergy

Pinergy, the Irish energy supplier & solutions brand, has announced the appointment of Martin Carroll as Chief Operating Officer.

The role will see Caroll support the CEO & Directors of Pinergy in further growing and scaling the business. He will oversee sales, operations, technology & product development.

Carroll will lead the scaling of the business through a period of further sustained growth.

Hisareas of expertise is creating efficient operating models to deliver on key market opportunities whilst scaling high performance businesses to the next level.

Speaking about his appointment, Enda Gunnell, CEO, Pinergy said, “Martin’s experience in the energy & sustainability sector combined with his broad business leadership expertise means he is well positioned to lead the scaling of the business to meet the growing demand for clean, renewable energy and related services.”

Commenting on his new role at Pinergy, Martin Carroll said, “I’m delighted to be starting this new role with Pinergy. The past few months has highlighted the need for change in the energy sector in Ireland.”

Carroll has over 10 years C-Suite’leadership experience, having led teams across sales, operations, product, customer Success, and marketing in addition to managing global cross-functional teams in multiple transformation programs.

Carroll is originally from Kildare and prior to joining Pinergy he was Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) for LIFX Inc, a Global Smart LED Lighting business.

He was also Managing Director for Buddy Europe, an Energy & Sustainability measurement systems company. Prior to that he was Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Digicel Business, the Enterprise Telecoms division of Digicel Group in the Caribbean.


Colin Hayes, Managing Director Ireland and UK,
Netwatch Group

Netwatch Group, a Proactive Video Monitoring company, has announced the appointment of Colin Hayes as Managing Director for Ireland & the UK.

In his new role, Hayes will manage and lead the Ireland & the UK Business Unit from the Netwatch base in Carlow. He will also be responsible for the expansion of the Netwatch business into Europe over the coming years.

Hayes joined the Netwatch team when the company was established in 2003. He joined from Keenan, who provide precision diet feeding technology, where he was Sales Manager.

In his early career with the Netwatch sales team, he was responsible for all revenue streams. He moved on to manage a sales and customer relationship team. In 2020, Hayes became Head of Business for Ireland & the UK.

Netwatch was established in Carlow in 2003. It now protects over 250,000 sites for businesses throughout the world.

Its “intervention specialists” direct operations remotely from monitoring centers. They visually verify intruders and intervene with live audio warnings to prevent criminal activity.

Henry Burrows, Group CEO and Executive Director,
Aperee Living

Aperee Living has announced the appointment of Henry Burrows as Group CEO and Executive Director.

Aperee Living has ten nursing homes across Cork, Kerry, Galway, Waterford and Kilkenny, and is currently completing construction of a new 100-bed nursing home in Glanmire, Cork.

Henry Burrows brings a wealth of experience to the position, having spent 18 years in the nursing home sector. He was most recently a Consultant to the Group CEO of the Bon Secours Health System, advising on strategy, particularly nursing home strategy.

Burrows was previously CEO of Araglen and Brídhaven Nursing Homes where he led the company through COVID-19 and the subsequent sale of Brídhaven.

Burrows’ experience also includes co-owning BRÓD Healthcare Management and Consultancy. In addition to this, he held several high-profile positions in the Middle East, working for the prestigious King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital and members of the Saudi Arabian Royal Family.

Margaret Fleming & Danny McCoy, Independent Directors,

IPUT Real Estate (‘IPUT’), Ireland’s leading property company and the largest owner of offices and logistics assets in Dublin, has anounced the appointment of two new independent Directors to its Board. Margaret Fleming, a career real estate professional and former Board member of JLL in Ireland and Danny McCoy, CEO of Ibec, Ireland’s largest lobby and business representative group, joined the Board with effect from 1 January, 2023.

John Mulcahy, Chairman, IPUT Real Estate, said, “Today’s appointments further strengthen the depth and expertise of our Board and we are delighted to welcome Margaret and Danny to IPUT. They bring a wealth of economic, sustainability and real estate experience ensuring we have the right skills and expertise to continue to build on our position as Ireland’s leading developer, owner and manager of prime real estate.”

Margaret Fleming is an experienced real estate professional who served in a senior role and as a Board member of JLL in Ireland. Over the course of her 32 years at JLL, she founded the first property research department in Ireland, and held a variety of senior investment roles including serving as International Director, JLL Capital Markets from 2012 until 2019.

Fleming was appointed to the Board of Hibernia REIT plc in January 2020 and served as non-executive Director, Chair of the Investment Committee and member of the Development Committee until the business was acquired and de-listed in 2022.

She is currently a non-executive Director of Activate Capital and Kilkenny Abbey Quarter Development Limited and a Trustee of The Iveagh Trust. Margaret is a Chartered Surveyor and an Executive Committee Member of the Urban Land Institute. She holds a BA and an MA from University College Dublin.

Danny McCoy is the CEO and a Board member of Ibec, Ireland’s largest lobby and business representative group. Appointed as CEO in 2009, McCoy has built Ibec into its position as the largest lobbying organisation in Ireland and the third largest in Europe.

Ibec, which includes 39 trade associations which cover a wide range of industry sectors, represents major employers in Ireland, including domestic and international businesses, and whose members employ over 70% of the Irish private sector workforce.

Prior to his role at Ibec, McCoy served as a senior economist and research officer at the Central Bank of Ireland and Ireland’s Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI).

He has lectured at a number of leading Universities in Ireland and internationally; and has provided consultancy services to the European Commission and OECD.

McCoy is a Board member of Balance for Better Business and a number of other organisations. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from NUI Galway, a Masters of Economic Science from University College Dublin and completed leadership courses at INSEAD and the London Business School.


Keith O’Sullivan, Senior Technical Project Manager,
Inis Offshore Wind

Inis Offshore Wind, the Irish offshore wind development business, has appointed Keith O’Sullivan as Senior Technical Project Manager. 

Keith O’Sullivan has over 13 years of global experience developing Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) technology and projects.

He is a Chartered Engineer and has a PhD focused on offshore wind and wave energy technologies. He has led ORE engineering projects with a diverse range of industrial companies, including complex and subsea product development and qualification programs; prototype Engineering, Procurement and Construction projects; and over 2.5GW of floating wind project development in Irish waters.

Head of Inis Offshore Wind Vanessa O’Connell said, “We are delighted with the calibre of people we’ve managed to attract and we’re looking forward to the collective efforts and energy they’ll bring along with their substantial levels of experience and expertise. This growing industry requires a collaborative approach and I’ve great confidence in the team we’re building for the future and I’m excited about the opportunities we have for the years ahead.”

Colin Dunne, President,

The Irish Exporters Association (IEA) has announced Colin Dunne as its President for 2023. Dunne is joint Managing Director of global logistics company International Warehousing & Transport (IWT).

He has been an active member of the IEA’s National Council since 2014. Having been at the forefront of the challenges faced by Irish exporters and importers for many years, he brings substantial experience to the IEA Presidency.
