This year, Owen Reilly celebrates 15 years since first launching his eponymous estate agency.

Reilly operates four branches in the Dublin area, having recently launched the newest branch in Ballsbridge. He has plans to expand countrywide over the coming months.

What was your first job?

Working on the family farm in Meath. My first paying job was when I worked in Chadwick’s for a summer when I was 16.

What pushed you to pursue a career in this field?

I always had an interest in property and land. I like dealing with people and enjoy sales and the property market, even with its ups and downs!

What would you regard as your greatest achievement to date?

It would be having the confidence to start my own business and competing with much larger brands/companies in this area.

Career wise, would you do anything differently?

Yes of course, I have made loads of mistakes in my time but it’s all part of the journey. Hopefully I’m making less of them now!

In one sentence, how would you define success?

Being able to do what I want when I want (within reason!)

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

‘Why not risk being early than being late,’ and, ‘don’t take things personally, it’s just business.’

How do you motivate yourself and your staff?

My colleagues and I always remember that even though we do this professionally every day, for our clients, moving home is only something most people do a couple of times. Emotions can be charged and it’s important we remember to have empathy.

How do you handle adversity?

I always remember that in fifty years’ time none of this will matter. As long as I continue to do my best and act with integrity that there will be more wins than losses.

How do you relax?

Spending time with my family and watching sports, though it’s tough times for Leinster, Liverpool and Meath!

What are your aspirations for the future of the business?

Continue to grow our market share and establish ourselves as agent of choice for our generation. I want to expand outside Dublin in the coming months and grow the business.
