Business Person of the Month September 2024: Sharon McCabe oversees union of McCabes and LloydsPharmacy

By Business & Finance
02 October 2024

Sharon McCabe is CEO of McCabes and LloydsPharmacy Ireland, two popular pharmacy chains that recently expanded their reach by combining their resources. McCabe is our Business Person of the Month September 2024, in association with KPMG Ireland.

Sharon McCabe is CEO of McCabes and LloydsPharmacy Ireland.

The two chains united following LloydsPharmacy’s purchase of McCabes, a move that was approved in April this year by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC).

The deal was first announced in October 2023, although the financial terms of the acquisition were not publically disclosed at the time.

The CCPC voiced concerns about levels of competition in the Lucan area of Dublin. In response, LloydsPharmacy has agreed to sell two McCabes locations in Lucan to a potential buyer buyer, and has said it will not to buy back these locations for at least a decade.

McCabes Pharmacy is set to own 112 stores with over 1400 employees as it unites with LloydsPharmacy.

The move was marked by an official ribbon-cutting ceremony on 29th August in the Ashleaf Shopping Centre in Crumlin, Dublin.

Speaking about the deal, McCabe said it “marks a new chapter for McCabes Pharmacy as we extend our renowned patient care to locations right across Ireland.

“By coming together under the McCabe Pharmacy name, we are not only expanding our reach and becoming more accessible to our patients by becoming the leading pharmacy services provider in Ireland.”

McCabes Pharmacy, a family-owned and operated business was founded in 1981. Sharon McCabe has operated as CEO since 1999. She is also a voluntary Non-Executive Director on the boards of St Vincent’s Healthcare Holding Company, and Cancer Trials Ireland. She serves as a Non-Executive Director at Ireland’s Eason PLC and Dublin Zoo.
