Frank Daly is Managing Director of JTM Energy, the battery technology company behind the world’s first EV mobile roadside rescue pack.

What was the inspiration behind starting the company?

JTM have been involved with battery technology for over 30 years since we developed a high output jump starter for heavy duty vehicles like trains, buses and trucks. We still sell many hundreds of this product each year. We created the world’s first EV mobile roadside rescue pack about a decade ago which we sold to companies like ESB eCars and the AA. This unit is essentially a battery energy storage system on wheels.

JTM Energy launched a couple of years ago as a manufacturer of battery energy storage systems. We saw the environmental potential of what we were doing with batteries by applying our know-how to reduce the needless consumption of diesel by generators in off grid applications such as construction sites.  It quickly became very clear that we could deliver real impact in both operational efficiency and sustainability on building sites.

What is your core product/service offering and what gap in the market are you trying to address?

Our core offering is Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) tailored to reduce emissions and improve energy efficiency for businesses. We saw a gap in the market for rugged, highly efficient, and fast-charging storage solutions, especially in off-grid and construction settings. Our systems drastically cut diesel generator run-times—by up to 80%—and thanks to advanced battery management and rapid charging, we help businesses achieve their sustainability goals while saving on operational costs.

Is there a particular sustainability-related issue that your business is trying to solve?

Yes—our entire mission is grounded in reducing carbon emissions and accelerating the transition to clean energy. We’re focused on addressing unreliable grid access and the overreliance on fossil-fuel-based backup systems. Our BESS solutions directly reduce generator use and emissions, supporting the circular economy and contributing to Ireland’s carbon reduction targets.

What motivated you to apply to the Accelerate Green programme?

Accelerate Green came highly recommended to us. The opportunity to work alongside other sustainability-driven businesses, with guidance from expert mentors and industry leaders, was a big draw. It’s a rare chance to step back from day-to-day operations and strategically focus on scaling and refining our business. The programme’s structure encourages implementation, not just learning—which aligns with how we like to work.

How important is professional networking for you as you grow your business?

It’s absolutely vital. Our sector is evolving quickly, and partnerships—both with peers and potential clients—can be the difference between good ideas and transformative impact. Through the Accelerate Green cohort, we’ve already identified collaboration opportunities, and some speakers have shown interest in working with us. Networking helps us grow smarter, not just faster.

What’s your long-term vision for the company?

We aim to be Ireland’s number one supplier of BESS within the next three years. But beyond that, our vision is to drive widespread adoption of clean energy solutions across multiple sectors—from construction to retail and beyond. We’re planning to expand into the UK in 2025 and into Europe by 2026. Sustainability will always be central: from reaching net zero by 2035 to helping our clients meet their ESG goals, we’re committed to building a future powered by innovation and responsibility.
