Dr Joe Fitzsimons, CEO of Horizon Quantum Computing, is our Business Person of the Month for March 2026, in association with KPMG. Horizon Quantum Computing is a Singapore-based software infrastructure company specialising in quantum computing applications.
Dr Joe Fitzsimons
Fitzsimons is a veteran of quantum computing research, bringing over 20 years of experience to his role as founder and CEO of Horizon Quantum Computing. A former professor at the Singapore University of Technology and Design, he also serves as president of the Southeast Asia Quantum Industry Association.
Among his notable scientific contributions, Fitzsimons co-invented universal blind quantum computing, a technology used to secure cloud-based quantum systems, cementing his reputation as one of the field’s leading minds.
He founded Horizon Quantum Computing in Singapore with a vision to build the software infrastructure layer that would power the next generation of quantum applications, and has led the company from its early-stage roots through to its recent public listing on Nasdaq.
Horizon Quantum Computing
Horizon Quantum Computing builds software infrastructure for quantum applications. Its core focus is bridging the gap between conventional and quantum computing. To do this, the company has developed a process called algorithm synthesis, which automatically converts code written in standard languages like C or Python into quantum applications, without altering how the original code functions.
The company raised $18.1 million in a Series A funding round in 2023, before completing a merger with special purpose acquisition company dMY Squared Technology Group in March 2026. The merger provided Horizon Quantum with gross proceeds of approximately $120 million before transaction costs. The company now trades on the Nasdaq under the symbol HQ.
The injection of capital will be used to accelerate research and development, strengthen its hardware testbed, and further advance its integrated development environment, Triple Alpha.
Horizon Quantum’s hardware-agnostic approach – building software infrastructure that works across competing quantum modalities – has drawn attention from investors and industry observers alike. “Horizon Quantum is compelling because the company is approaching the quantum industry with hardware-agnostic software infrastructure that stands to benefit regardless of which way the market share ultimately falls”, said Harry You, chairman and CEO of dMY.
Fitzsimons noted, “Recent rapid progress in advancing quantum computing hardware and breakthroughs in error correction mean that the field is reaching an inflexion point. With more than 20 years in quantum computing research, I have never been more excited about the prospects and future of the technology.”
