As the clock ticks down to tonight’s CFO 100 launch event in association with Friends First at The Merrion, here’s the fourth instalment in a five-part series featuring Ireland’s leading financial officers.


Shane Maguire / 3D4Medical

Shane has over 20 years international experience earned during his careers at Rabobank and Cisco where he held senior leadership roles across finance, operations and business development and played a key role in the establishment and growth of both businesses in Europe and International Markets from an early start up phase.

Shane is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (FCA) in Ireland having completed his training in KPMG Dublin.


Charlie Maguire / Goodbody

Part of FEXCO Group, Goodbody Fund Management is a company headquartered in Dublin, Ireland. The firm provides investment advice.The company was established in July 1986.

Charlie Maguire has held four directorships, all of which are currently active.


Conor Mallen / HSBC

Mallen has over 20 years experience in senior finance roles. He was appointed CFO for Ireland in HSBC Group in August 2014.

Prior to this he worked in Ulster Bank’s RBS Capital Resolution Group in Dublin as Head of Change/Deputy COO from July 2011 and was appointed as Head of Finance in September 2013, having previously acted as Interim Head of Finance.

David Matthews / Ardagh Group

The Group CFO of Ardagh, has been with them since 2014, a most recent highlight of his tenure being their listing on NYSE in March of this year.

He has previously held senior finance roles in DS Smith and Bunzl.

Des McCarthy / KBC

McCarthy is a member of the Bank’s Executive Committee and Board of Directors.

Des joined KBC in 1991 and has undertaken a number of roles in domestic and international lending for the KBC Group. Most recently Des was an Executive Director and Head of Credit of KBC Finance Ireland, the international project finance arm of KBC Group.

Tony McCluskey / Kenmare Resources

Financial Director Tony McCluskey has worked with Kenmare since 1991. He was originally appointed as Company Secretary and Financial Controller, before becoming Finance Director in 1999.

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from University College Cork and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. Before joining Kenmare, he worked for a number of years with Deloitte & Touche as a senior manager in Dublin and also worked overseas.

Kerry McConnell / RSA Insurance

McConnell joined RSA as CFO in 2014. Prior to this she was Finance Director – Retail Ireland at Bank of Ireland.

McConnell’s CV spans a variety of roles since training as a chartered accountant with PwC, and joining CRH as an internal auditor, and Coillte as a Senior Financial Accountant.

She is also a commercially endorsed RYA Offshore Yachtmaster.

John McGarry / State Street

McGarry joined State Street Ireland as CFO in 2012 and sits on the board of both State Street Fund Services (Ireland) and International Fund Services (Ireland).

Previous senior financial roles include stints in New Star Asset Management ad Ennismore Fund Management.

JP McGrath / Norbrook Laboratories

McGrath joined Norbrook in 2016. He previously worked with Aryzta for 11 years, most recently as Managing Director for their European and Asia Pacific Bakeries business. Prior to this he was the CFO for Europe.

His early career focused on auditing, commencing with a role within the Audit team in PWC, and progressing to more senior roles as Group Internal Auditor for the Irish Dairy Board, and Head of Internal Audit at IAWS Group.

He is a Chartered Accountant, having previously obtained a degree in International Commerce with French from UCD

Sean McKeon / Dalata Group

McKeon joined Dalata Group as CFO and Company Secretary in 2007 having developed his career in retail and FMCG distribution. He played a central role in Dalata’s 2014 IPO and subsequent debt fundraising and is responsible for financial reporting, compliance and risk management processes in the Group.

As Company Secretary he plays a leading role in the implementation of the corporate governance practices determined by the Board.

Before joining Dalata he was Group Chief Accountant at Roches Stores, and spent four years with Dunnes Stores as Head of Food Finance.

Earlier in his career he gained international experience with Diageo plc, (as Global Transfer Pricing Manager for the Häagen Dazs, Green Giant and Old El Paso brands), produce distributor Keelings, Aer Rianta International and CLC World Resorts and Hotel Group.

Patrick McMahon / Bord Gais Energy

Patrick McMahon joined Bord Gáis Energy in 2014 following the acquisition by Centrica plc with the objective of providing financial insight to the management team, strengthening financial controls and ensuring Bord Gáis Energy remain disciplined in the deployment of capital.

A Chartered Accountant, Patrick began his career with KPMG in Dublin. He went on to join ICI Corporate Finance in London for two years and subsequently spent eight years in the UK performing a number finance roles in Centrica, including Finance Director of British Gas Residential Energy.

McMahon spent four years in North America as Vice President of Direct Energy Services and subsidiary of Centrica plc.

Chris Meehan / Asavie

Chris Meehan oversees all the financial management functions at Asavie. He has 30 years’ experience in the IT sector, all at senior board level.

His experience is with private, public, and venture capital-funded companies. He was a member of the team that brought Trintech Group through a successful IPO on NASDAQ and the Neuer Markt and a member of the team that completed the successful sale of The Now Factory to IBM.

Meehan holds qualifications from UCD, is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland and has graduated from the Strategic Leadership 4 Chief Financial Officers Programme at Stanford University.

Brian Mehigan / Kerry Group

Brian Mehigan joined Kerry Group in 1989, having previously worked in practice for six years. He held a number of finance positions within Kerry Group between 1989 and 2002.

He has served as Chief Financial Officer and as an Executive Director on Kerry Group’s board since February 2002. He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland and a graduate of National University of Ireland, Cork.

Sean Mulligan / Largo Foods

Seán Mulligan joined Largo Foods as Finance Director in May 2014 having previously occupied senior finance roles with both PepsiCo Ireland Foods & Beverages and Shamrock Foods (part of the Valeo Foods Group).

Mulligan is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and holds a degree in International Business and Languages from Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT).

Senan Murphy / CRH Ireland

Group Finance Director Murphy is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from University College Dublin. He has over 25 years’ experience in international business across financial services, banking and renewable energy.

Murphy joined CRH from Bank of Ireland Group plc where he was Chief Operating Officer and a member of the Group’s Executive Committee.

He previously held positions as Chief Operating Officer and Finance Director at Ulster Bank, Chief Financial Officer at Airtricity and numerous senior financial roles in GE, both in Ireland and the United States.

Tom Murphy / Fyffes

Tom Murphy joined the Group in 1990.

He has held a number of senior accounting positions in Fyffes and was appointed to the position of deputy Managing Director and Finance Director of the Group’s Tropical Produce division in 2000.

He was appointed to the Board as Finance Director on 2 January 2007.


Deborah Nolan / Failte Ireland

As Secretary and Operations Director, Nolan fulfils the role of CFO at the tourism trade support body.

Failte Ireland supports the tourist trade through funding, grants schemes and guidance on tourism tax schemes.


Eoin O’Brien / OHM Group

Eoin O’Brien is currently Financial Controller of the car division of the OHM Group. He joined the main board of OHM in 2010

Prior to joining the OHM Group, he was the Automotive Consultant Manager in ADP Dealer Services Ireland (previously known as Kerridge).
Eoin is a qualified Chartered Accountant and an Engineering graduate (Computer and Electronics) from Trinity College Dublin.

John O’Connor / Zurich Insurance

A graduate of University of Limerick, with over 25 years experience, O’Connor previously filled a number of roles within Motorola before joining Zurich Insurance in 2001.

Fergal O’Dwyer / DCC

Fergal O’Dwyer, FCA, has been Chief Financial Officer of DCC since 1994, working in that role in the lead up to their flotation that year.

He joined DCC in 1989 having previously worked with KPMG in Johannesburg and Price Waterhouse in Dublin, on audit and corporate finance.

In his time with DCC he has worked closely with all of the Group’s material operating companies on a range of financial management, treasury and strategic, capital deployment and development matters. O’Dwyer joined the Board of DCC in February 2000.


Barry O’Gorman / Hermitage Clinic

As a graduate of TCD’s Computer Engineering course, and an FCA qualified accountant, O’Gorman fulfils a dual role at the high tech hospital.

John O’Grady / FBD Insurance

O’Grady joined FBD as an executive director and chief financial officer in July last year, replacing Fiona Muldoon who was promoted to become chief executive. He left rivals Liberty Insurance, where he was finance director since 2013.

O’Grady previously worked for Aviva and its predecessor companies in Ireland, since 1989, holding roles including finance director, claims director and operations director.


Stephen O’Kane / Friends First

Stephen O’Kane was appointed Chief Financial Officer for Friends First Life Assurance Company in January 2016.  

He has 20 years’ experience in the life and pensions industry, including various roles in financial reporting and forecasting.

He holds a bachelor of actuarial and financial studies from UCD and has a masters in economics.  O’Kane is an actuary by profession and is a member of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland and the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the UK.


Mark O’Kelly / ASL Aviation

Mark O’Kelly is Group CFO at ASL Aviation Group, a company headquartered in Europe that provides global aviation services.

Previously, O’Kelly was Group Financial Controller at the company before taking on his current role. His early career was spent as a Tax Consultant at PwC, before a three-year stint as Divisional Finance Director at Speedy Hire.

He holds a BComm in Accounting from UCD and a Master of Accounting qualification from the Smurfit School of Business.

Mark O’Neill / Boyle Sports

O’Neill was appointed CFO at Boylesports in May 2016.

Prior to this he was EMEA Finance Director Operations & Process Improvement at Kerry Ingredients for almost six years, and Finance Director at O’Briens Irish Sandwich Bars before that.

Tony O’Riordan / New Ireland Insurance

Tony O’Riordan was appointed as Chief Financial Officer of New Ireland Insurance from PwC, where he led the life assurance and actuarial consulting arm.

He has years of experience in senior financial roles in the insurance industry and has worked with HSBC Reinsurance, Aviva and Scottish Provident.

Neal O’Rourke / Sky

O’Rourke is a skilled finance and commercial leader with extensive executive management experience at blue chip international PLCs.

He has a proven track record in developing and driving transformation growth agendas, and has also held senior Commercial, Financial, Strategy and Operational roles.

Under his stewardship, Aer Lingus doubled its transatlantic fleet and it was this strategy that is still the cornerstone of the Aer Lingus growth story. It was this broad commercial background, that stoked Sky’s interest in his strong commercial and finance leadership.

Since arriving at Sky he has formed a strong partnership with CEO JD Buckley and Sky’s investment in Ireland has accelerated. An effective negotiator he has played a leading role in securing Sky’s expanding sports rights portfolio including GAA and the recent winning of 3pm Premier League matches from competitor Setanta.

Brian O’Shaughnessy / eShopWorld

A graduate of Business in DCU, O’Shaughnessy is an ACA qualified chartered accountant, with experience as an auditor with BDO, and six years as a director at Capnua where he advised on over €750m of financing and over €200m of M&A transactions, including the acquisition of Londis by BWG Foods and the MBO of Elverys.

He was appointed CFO of eShopworld in January 2017.
