The Swiss-Irish bakery company announced the appointments of new North American and strategy chiefs to alleviate business issues in undocumented workers and a failed retail strategy incurring a $1 billion loss.

US citizen Dave Johnson, formerly at Barry Callebaut and Kraft, will become CEO on the 23 January and John Heffernan will become Chief Strategist Office on the 28 February.

The company’s backfired attempt at selling their Otis Spunkmeyer cookie products and a goodwill writedown in North America of €492 million has seen the organisation report a full-year loss of €907.8 million ($1.09 billion).

CEO Kevin Toland said: “I look forward to working with Dave and John who will strengthen and deepen our team’s expertise as we focus on our core strengths and to returning Aryzta to performance and growth.”

Both Johnson and Heffernan will be on the company’s group executive committee. Heffernan is joining from daa, which operates Dublin and Cork Airports.
