Dalata runs and operates the Maldron and Clayton hotel brands. Its CEO, Dermot Crowley, is our Business Person of the Month February 2023, in association with KPMG.

Dalata Hotel Group’s annual revenues exceeded €0.5 billion for the first time in 2022.

The group recently opened six new hotels, including its first hotel in continental Europe – the Clayton Hotel Düsseldorf – bringing the portfolio to 50 in total at the end of 2022.

Dalata opened its 50th hotel with Clayton Hotel Glasgow City in October 2022. This is part of Dalata’s attempt to diversify further into the UK.

1,165 rooms were added to the group’s UK portfolio in 2022 (an increase of more than 34% room growth since December 2021). UK rooms now represent 37% of its portfolio.

It said its revenues for the year increased to €558.3m from €192m in 2021, during which time COVID travel restrictions were still enacted across the globe. This is also an increase of 20% compared to revenues of €429m in pre-COVID 2019.

“We’re delighted to exceed revenue of over half a billion or the first time,” said Dalata CEO Dermot Crowley, who has helped steer the group to high annual revenues.

He continued: “That’s been helped hugely by opening six new hotels last year, and taking over our first hotel in Europe and our RevPAR on a like-for-like basis is up 14% on 2019 … It’s great to generate free cashflow after two years of negative cashflow, so very positive after two very challenging years.”

Four hotels are currently under construction in UK cities. Its new London hotel is due to open in Q1 of 2024, and hotels in Brighton, Liverpool, and Manchester are all due to open in summer 2024.
