Russell Sloan, CEO of Kainos, has been described as an example of Kainos talent developed to its potential. He is our Business Person of the Month March 2024, in association with KPMG Ireland.
Sloan first joined Kainos, the Belfast-headquartered digital-transformation experts, almost 25 years ago as a software engineer. He became Head of the Support Business Unit where he spent 9 years leading the company’s application management division.
He then took on the role of Digital Services Director where he spent the next decade developing public sector business for Kainos, as part of the UK government’s ambitious and challenging ‘digital-by-default’ initiative. In that role, he led a team of over 1,400 staff, delivering digital transformation for government, healthcare and commercial sector organisations in the UK, Ireland, Europe and North America. He was responsible for setting the strategic direction of the business, sustainable and predictable growth, senior client relationships, successful delivery of projects, engagement and development of staff.
In September 2023, he became Chief Executive Officer of the company and, in that short time, has seen the company win a £75m Home Office contract as well as a rise in revenue and profits. Most recently, Kainos submitted applications for new offices and student housing in Belfast.
Sloan studied Engineering at Queen’s University, Belfast and is an alumnus of Darden Graduate Business School, University of Virginia and Stanford Graduate School of Business.
