Smurfit Kappa commits to sustainability and inclusion within production, introducing community focus to a company that spans 36 different countries, allowing for revenue of €12.8 billion in 2022. Smurfit Kappa is our Company of the Month February 2023, in association with KPMG.
Smurfit Kappa has reported earnings of €2.4 billion for 2022. This is a significant jump in annual revenue of 27% to €12.8 billion.
The group increased its final dividend by 12% to 107.6 cents per share.
“Our performance reflects the ongoing benefits of our investment programme together with our customer-led innovation and sustainability initiatives. SKG’s integrated model together with our geographic footprint continue to deliver for all stakeholders,” said Tony Smurfit, group chief executive.
Recently, Smurfit Kappa has made an investment of €27 million in a sustainability initiative based at their paper mill in Spain, specifically within their lime kiln and gas treatments facilities, with the goal of reducing landfill waste and their carbon footprint.
Amongst their inclusivity programs, they attempt to create a sense of hospitality within every country their production sites occupy, giving back to the people of the community that surround them and even those who may provide labour. These programs come in the form of charity funds, educational resources, and work opportunities for those with disabilities.
Financial highlights reported include a 38% EBITDA increase and an EBITDA ratio of 1.3%.
Demand has decreased as stricter regulations and stay-at-home orders have come to an end since the start of the global pandemic and with an increase in box prices, still, the company’s growth has shown to be significant.
Growth was specifically demonstrated in box sales in central and South America, with slightly below-expected outcomes in Germany, the UK, and North America.
Smurfit Kappa is the leading provider of corrugated packaging in Europe, landing them on the FTSE 100 Index.
