Origin Enterprises is a focused agri-services group providing specialist on-farm agronomy services, digital agricultural services and the supply of crop technologies and inputs. This month, the company reported a strong start to the financial year thanks to favourable autumn and winter planting levels.

The first quarter of the year is generally a quiet period for the company showed particularly impressive growth with a 42.6 per cent increase in revenue compared to the previous year. Origin attributes this to a positive planting season, early season buying by farmers and increased demand for the product. In addition, approximately half of the revenue growth was a result of increased global fertiliser and feed prices.

The company has said that looking ahead, the favourable autumn/winter planting levels set a solid foundation for continued progress later in the financial year. Their stated strategy is: ” To deliver agronomic led solutions, that meet the advancing needs of all stakeholders, collectively growing profitability in a sustainable and socially responsible manner.”

A company spokesperson said: “As flagged at the time of our FY21 full-year announcement, we are conscious of potential operating and commercial challenges with regard to global supply chain risks and raw material price volatility. Through continued disciplined capital deployment, and the strength and experience of the leadership team in place, we are confident in the group’s ability to progress our growth ambitions successfully in FY22 and beyond, allowing us to further increase shareholder returns.”

In other company news, last month, Origin’s Agrii Throws Farm Technology Centre and Newcastle University Farms became the latest two establishments to join the LEAF Network. Launched in October as LEAF Innovation Centres, they join the UK wide LEAF Network of farms and research centres, advancing the science and practical application of more sustainable, regenerative farming, delivered through Integrated Farm Management (IFM).
