Fenergo has grown from a Dublin-founded fintech into a global financial technology provider, recording €149 million in revenue in 2025. With a €100 million investment programme and a growing focus on artificial intelligence, the company is preparing for its next phase of expansion. Fenergo is our Company of the Month for October 2026, in association with KPMG.

Company history and background

Founded in Dublin in 2009, Fenergo is a financial technology company that develops software used by some of the world’s largest financial institutions to manage customer onboarding, meet regulatory obligations and prevent money laundering.

Headquartered in Dublin, the company specialises in Client Lifecycle Management (CLM) and Know Your Customer (KYC) solutions. Its technology helps financial institutions manage client data, streamline onboarding processes and meet increasingly complex regulatory requirements.

Fenergo has established an international presence, with its software used by major banks, investment managers and other financial institutions across global markets.

Financial performance

For the financial year ending March 2025, Fenergo recorded revenue of €149.4 million, an increase of 7.5% on the previous year. Pre-tax profit reached €21.1 million, almost doubling from approximately €12 million in the prior financial year.

Recurring software licence revenue also continued to grow, reaching €115 million, up 15% from €100.3 million a year earlier. The increase highlights the importance of recurring income to Fenergo’s business model, as financial institutions continue to use its software to manage ongoing compliance and client lifecycle requirements.

The financial results provide a foundation for the company’s next stage of expansion. In 2025, Fenergo announced a €100 million global investment in research, development and innovation, alongside plans to create 500 jobs worldwide, including 300 in Dublin over three years.

Many of the new positions are expected to be in software engineering, senior AI engineering and product management, reflecting the company’s focus on developing its technology offering.

International expansion and customers

Fenergo’s international reach is reflected in the geographical breakdown of its revenue. According to its latest accounts, the US generated €36 million, making it one of the company’s largest markets. Australia accounted for more than €20 million, while the UK contributed €14.5 million. France, Sweden and Norway each generated just under €6 million.

The company’s software is used across major financial institutions, banks, capital markets and energy companies, supporting client lifecycle management, KYC and anti-money laundering (AML) compliance.

Among its customers is French banking group BNP Paribas, which uses Fenergo’s CLM platform for its group-wide One KYC utility. The implementation received a Celent Model Bank Award. Other organisations using Fenergo’s technology include Northern Trust, TMF Group, Santander, Truist, Mizuho Americas, First Abu Dhabi Bank and StoneX.

Its international customer base demonstrates the demand for technology that can help financial institutions manage regulatory requirements across different jurisdictions. As compliance obligations become increasingly complex, software providers such as Fenergo play a role in helping institutions standardise processes and manage client information across their operations.

AI innovation and research and development

Artificial intelligence is becoming an increasingly important part of Fenergo’s product development strategy. In July 2026, the company announced the launch of Fen-AI, which it describes as the first Continuous System of Control for Client Lifecycle Management in regulated financial institutions.

The platform embeds AI across client lifecycle management, KYC, onboarding, transaction monitoring and periodic reviews. It is designed to automate complex compliance processes while ensuring that AI-driven actions remain transparent, explainable and auditable.

Fen-AI is powered by KYRA, Fenergo’s family of governed AI agents. Its initial release includes six automation agents designed to handle repetitive operational tasks, including document processing, data sourcing, screening and reporting. By automating routine activities, the technology aims to reduce the administrative workload for compliance teams, allowing employees to concentrate on more complex decisions and risk assessments.

The development reflects a wider shift in Fenergo’s technology strategy. Co-founder and chief technology officer Niall Twomey described the company’s evolution from software installed on customers’ premises to software delivered as a service, and now towards AI-driven capabilities.

The €100 million investment programme and planned recruitment of AI specialists further demonstrate the importance of innovation to Fenergo’s future growth. Its Dublin operations are expected to play a significant role in this development, with the planned R&D Centre of Excellence supporting research and product development.

Future strategy and ownership

Fenergo’s next phase of growth comes as demand for financial crime prevention, regulatory compliance and automated client management continues to create opportunities for specialist technology providers.

The company is also operating under a private equity ownership structure. In 2021, investment firms Bridgepoint and Astorg acquired Fenergo from Insight Partners, alongside the company’s management team. The acquisition followed a period of international expansion and was intended to support further investment in its software-as-a-service strategy and product development.

More recently, Reuters reported last month that Bridgepoint and Astorg were considering a potential sale of Fenergo, which could value the business at more than £2 billion (€2.40 billion). However, no final decision had been made.

For Fenergo, its future development will depend on maintaining its position in the international financial technology market while adapting to changes in compliance requirements and the growing use of artificial intelligence. With continued investment in product development and its Irish operations, the company is seeking to build on its international growth while retaining Dublin as its headquarters.
