An Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD launched the new Ireland.ie portal as part of his St Patrick’s Day visit to the US.

The new site is an initiative of the Creative Ireland programme, which places culture at the centre of the country’s public policy.

Ireland.ie is the gateway to discovery about Ireland and Irish people at home and abroad. The website is a central hub which unifies Ireland’s global reputation and draws on the knowledge, talent, innovation and imagination of the Irish to promote the country as a great place to live, visit, study, and to invest.

Speaking at a special event attended by senior business people in Washington, the Taoiseach said: “Our culture speaks to the essence of who we are, a culture of storytelling and learning, of artistic endeavour, pride in heritage, and a never satisfied curiosity about the world around us. We are peacekeepers and peacemakers. We believe in culture as a basis for personal and collective wellbeing. We are now a global nation, ever alert to the challenges that confront us all. All of this marks out a distinct contribution we can make to the world.

He continued: “Through the Creative Ireland programme we will nurture and invest in the creativity and imagination of our people, strengthen and empower our communities and create the space for ideas and innovation to flourish and grow. Ireland.ie states confidently and proudly that Ireland is a great place to live, to work, to invest in, do business with, and to study.”
