Energia Group: Powering the Energy Transition

By Business & Finance

As Ireland’s energy system evolves, Energia Group is expanding renewable generation, grid flexibility and energy-efficiency solutions to support customers, businesses and communities in the transition to a low-carbon future.

At Energia Group, we’re proud to play a leading role in powering the energy transition across the island of Ireland. Every day, more than 900,000 homes and businesses rely on us to power their lives, their workplaces and their ambitions. Today, that responsibility carries an even greater purpose: helping Ireland transition to a cleaner, more resilient and sustainable energy future.

Ireland’s energy system is changing rapidly. Customers are no longer passive consumers of electricity; they are active participants in the energy transition. Our role is to support that journey, providing renewable energy, innovative technology and practical solutions that empower customers to reduce energy use, lower emissions and make informed choices about how energy is generated and consumed.

For Irish businesses, the transition to a sustainable, low-carbon economy represents both a challenge and an opportunity. We offer practical supports such as our Energia Lighting Solutions and Business Energy Efficiency Grants, which make it easier to save energy, cut emissions and deliver on their ESG commitments.

To meet the growing electricity demand, we’re developing one of the largest pipelines of renewable projects in Ireland. Thanks to decades of experience delivering major infrastructure projects, we now operate 17 onshore wind farms, including our newest at Crossmore in Co. Clare. Our portfolio continues to grow across solar farms, battery storage and green hydrogen production, with each project strengthening Ireland’s cleanenergy future.

At the same time, flexibility remains essential to a successful transition. Through our Huntstown campus, we develop and operate flexible generation along with storage systems that support grid stability and reliability. The 747 MW of conventional generation assets ensure energy security while enabling greater integration of renewable power across the system. An additional 50MW of generation has also been installed at Huntstown as part of the Government’s temporary emergency generation plans to support security of supply, and our 50 MW battery in Northern Ireland contributes to system security and to the further integration of renewables onto the grid.

Across all our business activities, sustainability remains a core part of who we are. A sustainable future needs skilled, innovative and motivated people behind it. That’s why we invest in our teams, helping them grow the talent and expertise that Ireland’s energy transition demands. We recognise that our strength comes from our differences. We value diversity in all its forms and work to ensure every colleague feels included, respected, and empowered—not despite their uniqueness, but because of it.

Our ambition is to remain a leading force for positive change within the energy industry, society and the communities in which we serve. We believe that we have a responsibility to the communities that we operate in, and we proactively engage to collaborate with community groups, NGOs and education programmes. This has been achieved through various partnerships, our employee volunteering programmes, charitable initiatives and wind farm Community Benefit funds.

This is Energia Group today: a company committed to investing in Ireland’s sustainable energy future while supporting our customers, strengthening communities and empowering our people. By building a flexible, renewable, resilient energy system, we are helping ensure that the next generation inherits a truly sustainable energy future.
